The Redesign is Still in Process

Hi there,

This one is short and to the point.  I know you are wondering about the game.  It's not ready yet.  I'm looking at getting another crack at playtesting it in the next few weeks.  If all goes well with this (keep your fingers crossed) Rich and I should be able to set out a timeline for the next steps.

This is taking much longer than we had hoped, and I sincerely appreciate your support and your patience.  As absolutely soon as possible, we will press the "done" button on the design phase and move on into production.

In the meantime, if you need me here's my email again (so it's handy) graydon@evertidegames.com.

Take care,

Jeremy Williams, Zeke Talmage, and 9 more people like this update.

If we are going to wait this long I would really appreciate some more information on the changes stuff thats being worked on. Which game mechanics are the issue, etc.

"Since the rules seem like they're going to be different from what we've seen, can we redesign our individual cards, and how would we go about doing that?"
copied and pasted from my February question. and january. do you guys read these?

It's good to hear things are progressing. I would rather hear that Tarol is okay. But short of that I'd like to hear he's recovering from whatever caused him his suffering. Sometimes we have bad days, sometimes we have bad months.

@Paul, that text concludes "We are ready to fabricate the game and now is the time for robustly testing this new version." Since they are still playtesting, this isn't a vast departure from that statement.

That said, I would like more details about what is going on, especially as regards mechanics. I want to know more about the process that is going into this game. More information is a good thing!

I second sleet's comment and to a certain extent Paul's. I don't really care how long it takes, but more info like sleet describes would be nice to understand that something is actually being done with my money. If something changed between the Jan 31 update saying it was ready to go and now, that's fine, just explain that.

Like, why does a playtest sesson have to wait a few weeks? Is it because changes are still being made? Is it because there is missing artwork? In either case, it would be no big deal, it will be done when it is done.

Absent such details however, this feels a lot like when I backed "the doom that came to atlantic city."

Thanks for the update, I'm content to wait as long as you need to really make this game shine.
I do wish, though, that we could get some in-depth explanations of how things are going: How the mechanics have changed, the different iterations you went through in coming up with a system that you were happy with, and so on.
And I'll definitely second the suggestion for releasing a pdf in advance, a thousand people looking the rules over are bound to pick out those niggling typos or inconsistencies that build up when games change over time like this.

"The good news is that Richard has completed the new framework for GAR. We are ready to fabricate the game..." from Jan 31

Having a hard time reconciling that statement (from two months ago) with the latest one.
I agree that having a solid game would be great, but we have been told several times that the game is ready to go to production, only to find out months later that 'something' has had to be redesigned/changed/etc.

Just seems incredibly odd to me that a game that could have been produced for $30K (the original goal) can't seem to get produced with nearly 6 times that much financial support.

Of course, all other things being equal, I'd rather have the game sooner; but considering I already have more games (board and video) than I have time to play, I'd rather get the best game possible, whenever it comes out. Keep focusing on quality, and thanks for the update.

Thanks for the update, we would all like a good game instead of a premature release.
So take the time you need to get it right.

Perhaps you could release a pdf of the rules before the final production begins? :-P

We could get a faq started or maybe help in clarifying the rules before the final rulebook gets printed.

I'd rather wait for a good game then have you ship something else. Thanks for the update.

Hey man. Heard you had some personal stuff going on. Thanks for taking the time to write this. Feel better soon! Can't wait to hear about the revisions!!!
