Package!? is an abstract strategy game, designed with very quick play (roughly 5 minutes a game) in mind, and is played without the need for a board, or a great deal of space. Each player is responsible for depositing a number of packages to 5 different locations, as well as moving packages about between these locations and creating openings to remove opposing packages from the game.
The decision behind what’s in the packages, and what each player represents, is left to you… Maybe you are couriers taking parcels to businesses? Maybe you are spies leaving bombs in enemy facilities? Maybe you are fishermen bringing the days catch into harbour? – Lets be honest, if we told you who and what, then it wouldn’t be abstract anymore!
Every set of Package!? contains the following super awesome components...
Many of the items above have come from unlocked stretch goals. Want to see what else could be added to Package!?...

On top of this, every box will will be printed with a gorgeous spot UV finish and each limited edition wooden box will have the backers name etched into it! Each copy of the game will also include both the super mini-expansions 'The Über Package' & 'The Shadow Pawn' (see updates for details).
A bit info more about the contents...
Package!? contains high quality wooden components. Why? Well, simply put, I prefer them! Yes, plastic pawns and cubes are cheaper, but the quality of wooden components far exceeds those of plastic in my experience. The aim to create something I want to play (and play with) was paramount throughout and so wooden playing pieces were a must (but not the die... wooden dice just feel wrong. Maybe I'm mad?). Package!? has very bright and vibrant component colours. I find this enhances the experience of the game, makes it look lovely on the table top, and keeps it feeling quirky and abstract.

What's that about a limited Kickstarter edition?
Yup. The limited Kickstarter edition will ship with this ultra-sexy hardwood veneer box which features a working catch, hinge and rastered logo. Yum! This limited edition is available for a pledge of £30.
This limited version is strictly available only to Kickstarter backers, never to be made again!
UPDATE: thanks to the recent stretch goal unlock each wooden box will now receive a backers name etched into it (unless you don't want it, of course!).
So, how do you play Package!?
Good question! Package!? is a game which can seem a touch mind-boggling at first glance, but don't be scared, it's actually VERY simple, fast and furious.
Each turn a player rolls the die and takes an action based on the result. Each roll presents a range of possible options, with additional options becoming available as more 'packages' are placed or removed. The options available to each player include moving and removing other packages, as well as relocating their player pawn to try and obtain an advantageous position for scoring. Points are scored for each package left in play at the end of the game based on its location, along with other chances to score bonus points. When the game ends, the one with the most points is declared the winner… Simple. Sort of!
The intro video to this campaign gives a quick summary the game play, but here is Tyler from Bearded Meeple giving us a overview of the rules in his review of Package!?
For those of you who want a highly detailed overview of the rules, moves and options, you can click the banner below for Toucan Play That Game's in-depth 'How To Play' video...
In addition to the detailed rules sheet, 4 (thanks to a stretch goal unlock!) double sided 'quick reference card' is included in the box, detailing the moves and options available to each player. This reference card really serves to streamline play and makes picking up the game a much smoother experience. The reference card is printed on a 'large Tarot-sized' card, making it easy to read. Here is a peek:
A score summary card is also included to make the end-game scoring quick and simple:

All games will ship from within the EU with the core fulfilment being handled by a company with oodles of experience in doing just that - shipping board games all over the world. Due to the low value of the base game, Package!? is customs friendly in most countries!
**Please note: If you are buying the wooden box version, multiple copies, or adding a play mat to your pledge then you 'may' be subject to customs fees due to the increased value of the goods. If in doubt please check with your local customs agency.**
I have gone to every effort to keep the shipping values as low as possible, and as such the following charges will apply:
Standard & Limited Edition -
- UK: £3
- Rest of the world: £6
Multi-buy 5 copies deal -
- UK: £6
- Rest of the world: £10
Manufacturing is expected to take around 4-5 weeks, but we'll call it 6-8 due to Christmas being in the way. Shipping time to the UK is to be added to this and allowing time to pack and fulfil orders I am hopeful to have all games in peoples hands by late April 2017.
A quick note about the funding target...
I was asked why my target was so low and thought it would be worth making a note of it here for anyone else interested.
I am currently in possession of a bulk of wooden components, enough to satisfy a minimum production run (these are left from a project that never went ahead). As such, only the printed components (box, rules, reference card) need funding for manufacture. I must stress that this based on a minimum production run, using Kickstarter as it was originally intended - to raise the minimum funds required to bring a project to life on it's smallest scale. If we pass the funding target then along with any unlocked stretch goals I'll be increasing the size of the production run accordingly, which will involve further manufacture of all game components.

So, how did you come up with this idea?
It's a question I get asked all the time, after all, Package!? is a little bit 'out there' and far from mainstream. I love abstract games. Everything from Chess to Yinsh. I also love those abstract games with a 'pasted on theme' like Hive, Urknall and Haru Ichiban. Games which are about a core mechanic. Games which are often confusing at first glance until you get inside them, then they take over your life! I'd had ideas for a long time about a placement game where combinations of moves create cascades of movement between the items placed. After many late nights and endless hours of rolling and moving, Package!? was born. Then unborn. Then born again. Then changed. Then revised. THEN, eventually it stopped being pure head scratching and got faster to play, it seemed to find itself through the numerous rules tweaks and revisions. Completive players (such as those into Magic The Gathering and other fast paced games) started to love it and acknowledge the 'do your mate over' aspect of the game, it attracted banter and laughter... That's the Package!? we have here.
It still has a steep learning curve, but then do many of the abstract games I love. I know that what has been created here is not for everyone, I'm open about that fact, but this idea that dropped out of my little brain is something that I believe many others will love.
Er... So, who the hell are you?
Oh, yeah, I'm Shep. I'm a pretty normal dude who likes to make games, play games, live games and breathe games. If you're reading this then I'm pretty sure you can relate! Half Wing Games is the name I'm using for my designs and publishing, but don't be scared, I'm not a big money grabbing games company, I'm just me!
I live with my (very) supportive lady and two young boys who love Pokemon and beating me at games designed for people twice their age. I used to be the operations manager with a retail-financial services chain, but long before that worked for Forge World at Games Workshop HQ in Nottingham. Aside gaming I am a (recently) qualified Hypnotherapist, a practitioner of Kendo and a musician. Most importantly, I consider myself to be a pretty decent human being.
Thank you so much for checking out this project

Risks and challenges
This is my first Kickstarter and anyone that has been here before me will no doubt have struggled to write in this box. I am lucky to be close to a number of people who have walked this path already and delivered a product at the end of it. I have listened to their feedback, I have gathered their advice and I feel that I have enough of an understanding to iron out most issues that arise.
Artwork is complete, pre-production sampling is complete, component testing is done. Only manufacturing stands before us. To minimise the possibility of any hiccups, I am manufacturing with a reputable maker, one who has manufactured games I have in my collection and who has worked previously with people I know. I already have fulfilment lined up, as well as a number of independent retail outlets willing to stock the product, having already tried it during pre-production. I feel confident about the process ahead.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
