The Halloween Project Book (Canceled)
A photo book titled, The Halloween Project. This is a photo series I have shot the last 5 years, it's time for a book.
The Halloween Project has been a 5 year photo series that has built and grown with each year that I have done it. No matter what the line up change of volunteers or models that help, the core theme of the series has always remained the same, the recreation of horror movie themes, Halloween based characters, and pretty much anything that we feel will scare someone, yet entertain. Although I can honestly say the images I have created have never been what I would call scary in anyway. Amusing, but never anything that would frighten.
The origins of The Halloween Project goes back to my childhood. I used to love to go and see old movies, but more for their advertising art then the movie itself. In fact it was movie poster art that really is the heart of the series. As a teenager I would spend time at the library looking at old movie posters. The color, coupled with the dramatic way the displayed the characters just really grabbed me. In fact sometimes the movie poster was more entertaining then the actual movie. So when I became a photographer, the eventual slide into this series theme was bound to happen. Thus, every shoot idea we come up with is created into a movie poster design. My work is heavily laced with photoshop, which sets me apart from another artist or two that do this themed idea. We shoot the base idea, and then I also shoot additional photo stock for the final product. Adobe Photoshop and I spend many hours together.
The project has become popular enough that I never have problems in getting models to volunteer to be part of it. We have gained a very good fan base. So this year we decided that the series needs to be taken to the next level. I want to give fans something back. Our usual way of showing the years series is by including it in a small magazine I produce. But this never really gets the word out of says thank you, to all that were part of it. We wanted to go all out this year, do something more. The idea hit me that we should convert the series into a 8x8 book, as well a limited run poster. Seeing the Halloween Project blossom into an actual book as well as seeing an actual movie poster created around the project would be a dream come true. I feel it would give the series more meaning. Along with this we plan on starting a YouTube channel and it's own website. We want to go all out.
So where do we need your help and what do we need donations for?
1. The 8X8 Book. The funds to produce the book itself. I'm not looking to get rich here. My want is more to see the series in print. We have two different printers we plan to go to, have set our cost for a production of 50 or more issues. I just need the finances to fund getting them made. The book would be based on new work, as well as a few past images.
2. Movie Poster. A 16X20 movie poster, that is based around past years Halloween Project it planned. I say past because we feel the images we did in the last 6 years needs to be seen in print as well. This will be on a glossy based paper.
3.Equipment.I recently had water damage to two pieces of studio equipment that I've used for years. While we could struggle along without it, it adds to the images overall look. The items were not insured so replacing them easily would be hard. This would be for the lighting, as well as for the camera.
4. Special Effects Makeup. My daughter has been our makeup artist as well as creates a lot of the special effects I use in the series. Unless it is photoshop, my daughter is the one who made it happen. But makeup for this series cost a lot to finance each year and with our expanding it, and making an effort to make this project bigger, we will need to add to our Special Effects. Latex isn't cheap.
That's all this Kickstarter will be financing. We can cover all the rest. The book is important in that it allows this series to grow bigger then it has ever been. It's basic the next step in it's evolving.
As for what you will get out of this for your donation. We came up with some pretty good rewards. Of course the ever popular, donate a $1. and make it happen, to the be part of the production. Meaning be a model in the series. Participate. For local models or actors in my area this would be a great addition to the series.
Please help support the making of this book and poster. It would add to this series like none other and achieve a dream that I have for it.

Risks and challenges
To be honest the only challenge we face is time to complete the series. Every year we get down to the line with our shoot schedule but have always been able to pull off a great selection to each years installment. I've been a photographer for many years and also run a studio, The Image Factory. I'm used to deadlines and demands to get work done. I always set out the idea to do more, but with that comes the reality of what I can get done in the time needed, so along the way my book of ideas is trimmed. The makeup end delays us because makeup to do a full production of ideas can get costly. But we have always made due.
The series is mine. There is nothing in the way of our completing the Halloween Project. To be very honest, while I would love to acquire financing to make this project bigger then it has in previous years. I also know that a passionate production will be put on a there will be fantastic work to be shown, no matter the format it will end up in.
