A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:
Proof of Concept
Explorations that test ideas and functionality.
Functional Prototype
Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.
Appearance Prototype
Looks like the final product, but is not functional.
Design Prototype
Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.
Production Prototype
Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.

These photos and videos provide a detailed look at this project’s development.
Spinning a fidget spinner is enjoyable, with possible benefits of having something to occupy hands while at work or school to help stay focused. All of the spinners encountered did not have the element of customization, they were fixed designs from their creators. But what if a spinner could be customized to be what you want it to be? What if you could put whatever in the holding area and spin your items? Viola!! The idea for GripSpinner was born! Many months, prototypes, and adjustments later, here it is today, offering the totally unique and customize-able GripSpinner!
What will you Grip and Spin???
GripSpinner
How the Grip Adjustment Works
Rack and Pinion
The GripSpinner adjusts the gripping jaws open by utilizing a sliding rack and two rotating pinion gears system. To clamp the rack into position, an Allen wrench tool is included to tighten the screws. This will allow the jaws to be held rigid with more clamping torque.

However, please note, the GripSpinner contains many parts and should only be rotated by hand, not with external forces such as compressed air, for example. The GripSpinner is created for customization enjoyment and not intended to be the fastest spinner in your arsenal.
Materials
The gripping jaws and the gear racks are laser cut from 304 Stainless Steel plate for a precision edge on the gripper components. A U.S. based Laser Cutting facility has been chosen with a focus on quality.
The central body component is aircraft grade aluminum machined to close tolerances, giving a rugged and great appearance. A U.S. based machine shop has been chosen to give repeatable results.
NEW - Buttons. The buttons will be aluminum buttons sized to fit the 608 bearing and screwed into place.
Bearings - 608 size
Quality 608 bearings have been chosen from a U.S. supplier. Each bearing has the shields removed and professionally degreased by the supplier. This allows free spinning with less resistance. Your choice will include a steel ball bearing, or for an add-on charge, upgrade to the the ceramic hybrid bearing option.

GripSpinner Modes
GripSpinner Modes can spin as a GripSpinner, a Loose Spinner or a Bare Spinner, see descriptions below:
a. GripSpinner Mode
GripSpinner Mode
GripSpinner mode will allow you to place different objects in the grippers and spin them as you see fit!

b. Loose Spinner Mode
In Loose Spinner Mode, the gripper legs are loose to swing around during spinning. This gives exciting flipping action when gravity overcomes the centrifugal forces of the spin speed. Also the GripSpinner can be posed in various shapes as shown below.
GripSpinner with Rack Gears Removed - Loose Spinner
In Bare Spinner Mode, all components are removed from the central body part. This allows you to spin the smaller body of the GripSpinner for your convenience.
Bare Spinner Mode - Parts Exploded

With design experience, manufacturing background and prototyping knowledge, this translates into a very low risk factor.
A U.S. supplier is selected for bearings, reducing risk.
U.S. suppliers are selected for the laser cut stainless steel parts, and machining of the aluminum, reducing risk.
Every possible step will be taken to ensure that all design requirements and deadlines are met, this is the top priority.
Backers will be kept up to date every step of the way and will be informed if any unforeseen problems arise.
It is the goal to make every customer a satisfied customer, and that each one will enjoy the unique experience of owning their very own GripSpinner!
