About this project
For project updates:
“We are ever obsessed with our identity in this colourful, confusing modern world, where everything and anything is deemed to be possible.. because of these infinite possibilities, the reality of our bodies has almost been forgotten. we are used to images of unrealistic, hyper sexualized, photo shopped bodies and faces of unrealistic proportions. This instillation aims to confront our future in light of this reality, how you perceive it will take you on your own journey of identity…" Emma Buggy
Hi I’m Emma, I’m an emerging London based visual artist predominantly making sculptures of genitalia and female body parts. My practice involves varied applications of ceramic, fabric and plastic arts and often relates to an assorted commentary on sexuality, body image, voyeurism and media manipulation of male and female identity. Over the past few years I have been showing regularly in provocative group such as “Modern Panic 3” at Apiary studios, “Cultivation” at Cultivate Gallery on Vyner Street, “Tweet me up” at the Tate Modern, and more. I am now working towards the planning of my first major solo show. However, before that, I will be touring this particular instillation project through galleries and spaces in the UK.
I have also been invited by curator Misa Shin, to work alongside her and 5-7 other artists on an exciting new concept for an exhibition called “Fantasy and Fear”, It will be happening in 2013, with more details to come...
Genitals and Orifice's crawling up the walls...
My intention is to transform a decadent and glamorous setting, into a fantastical, sensual world where orifice crustaceans are found clambering up the walls and genitalia chandeliers hang their “jewels” discreetly at eye level, amongst vagina shoes and other dramatic and theatrical depictions of the human form. A contrast of vivacious body sculptures installed in a classy and sophisticated setting, highlights a current media and consumer obsession with wealth, glamour, beauty and perfection. These instillations aim to evoke simultaneous opposing responses, such as, disgust & delight, and repulsion & intrigue. The viewer will be confronted with an imposed position as the voyeur, creating an intimate and claustrophobic space between the audience and the art works.
My aim is to take this instillation on tour in 2013, and allow it to grow in size and change in material, from ceramics, to moving sculptures and stop motion animation. Eventually the piece will have evolved alongside other projects of mine (please do contact me if you are interested in knowing more about what I am / will be making in the studio) and will be a crucial part of my first major solo show.
The three main instillation pieces “Yoni Lingam Crustacian’s” and “Genitalia Chandeliers” x2, all need to be made. As you can see I have begun and currently have 60 crustaceans ready to be fired in the kiln, 20 of them have been painted, and the first chandelier piece has already been made. In order for me to continue and complete these instillations I need to make:
·100 ceramic crustaceans,
·200 Resin Cast chandelier pendants
·Time, space and money to spray paint all 300 pieces.
How you can help me, and what your pledge will go towards
For this project I am only asking for £1500, this is actually half the amount I will need in order to cover all of my costs, but this is my first Kickstarter so any financial assistance is appreciated rather than none (In order for me to gain access to any of the funds raised in Kick-starter I need to hit my minimum target of £1500). With your help (from as little as £2, which seriously makes a difference)
Your pledge's will help pay for:
·Materials (clay, resin silicone etc..)
·Studio assistant (food and travel costs)
·£300 towards my general living / travel costs during the time that I will be working solely on this project.
Now that is an enormous amount of working hours and materials for me to cover. I would like to be able to spend all of my time on this project so that the instillations are fully realized to their potential, and the exhibition will be as professional exicuted as possible... this costs money..
The continuation of this project is simply not possible without your support, all and any of your help will be seriously appreciated and I will be regularly updating all making, instillation and exhibition stages of the project on Facebook, Twitter and instagram for you to follow.
Don't worry if you can't contribute at the moment, a simple share on your Facebook page or an email to any friends who may be interested in the project, would also be a fine way to help spread the vulva love....

Risks and challenges
As we do not have a final venue and date confirmed for the exhibition, I cannot give a clear date and time for when these sculptures will be exhibited as part of "Fantasy and Fear". I will however, be showing a part of the instillation in an exhibition called "Yeastie Girls", at Cultivate Gallery on Vyner street from 21st February to the 6th March 2013. http://www.cultivatevynerstreet.com/ShowYeastieGirls.html
I also plan on showing the instilation at a few locations throughout the year, and as a part of my first solo show in winter 2013.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
