As Real Madrid & Barcelona duel within the pantheon of Europe's soccer elite, rival fans trade barbs that rely on often erroneous historical snapshots. This eBook will add depth to frequently shallow debates. It will also provide a compelling narrative and include essential political and economic background. From the amateur era of the 1900's through Franco's reign to Cruyff's dream team, this eBook will do justice to both great clubs: offering the original analysis, reverence, and honesty their proud history deserves.
The author, Elliott Turner, is a lifelong Real Madrid fan but has blogged about both super clubs at Futfanatico.com since 2008. Yes, he coined the term "CULEbra", but he has also written about the greatness of Messi & Xavi. In addition to blogging, Elliott has contributed to Yahoo Sports, the Run of Play, In Bed with Maradona, Fox Sports, and other sites. In 2011, he wrote & self-published the modestly successful "An Illustrated Guide to Soccer & Spanish." The artist, Erik Ebeling, provided the artwork for the "Illustrated Guide", and is on board for another book, provided we get things kickstarted!
There are four costs associated with this book: (1) Artwork - by Erik Ebeling, (2) Original Research - getting old & out of print books, (3) Publishing legalese - getting an ISBN & copyright, and (4) Conversion - turning the author and artists' polished HTML manuscript into a snazzy ePub and MOBI file for Kindles & Nooks & iPads. These costs are not astronomical, but prohibitive to a humble blogger and indie author.
This is a story that should be told and needs your help to get it done!
If you are outside the US and pledge for prints, trading cards, or the coveted, limited edition Junito signed jersey, please add $5 for shipping costs.
UPDATE - We are currently at a $1,200 level, so, as promised, ALL BACKERS will be getting a DRM-free bundle of the Best of Futfanatico 2010 in PDF, ePUB, and MOBI. Thanks for the support y'all!
FYI - I'll be blogging throughout the creative process at GoodReads. Check it out here: http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/3977721.Elliott_Turner/blog
No. Sorry for the confusion. Junito is my 5 year old son. A few years ago, I wrote a blog series about how Junito, then two, would eventually ascend to greatness at Real Madrid. It was part tongue-in-cheek satire on our cultural obsession with youth, and part prime time network TV family comedy. Here's the first post. http://bit.ly/KLZPxU Here's the video highlights. http://bit.ly/Km4edp Junito eventually retired (somewhat prematurely), so his jersey is worth EVEN MORE now.
Plus, rumors of a return still percolate and cannot be ruled out.
No. Sorry for any confusion. Each pledge level will include what is in the parentheses [item] plus the item mentioned. For example, the $15 pledge gets you the Soccer Spanish book and the new Real Madrid/Barca book in advance. It does not get you a 3.5x5 print. It also does not get you the "Best of" books.
