About

"Let's Chat" is a unique family board game experience. It encourages open communication about complicated topics that are hard to find the right time to talk about. While the answers may be different, the questions apply to a wide range of ages 5 and above.

While playing "Let's Chat", in a fun and friendly environment, from a very young age you are building a solid foundation of information and family solutions that your children face in this day and time. You also have the opportunity to develop an environment where your child feels comfortable in "chatting" with you about everything that they face in these impressionable years.

Open communication between a parent and child can be the most effective way of shaping your child's growth and future.  But in many cases, parents do not know how to talk with their child about such important topics without making it sound scary or even worse, a lecture.  "Let's Chat" takes away the awkwardness of these serious subjects and puts them in a "matter of fact" way.  And because your child will love playing the "Let's Chat" board game with you, you have the opportunity to reinforce what you have taught them.

In a fun and comfortable setting,
Let's Chat addresses issues like:

  • Drug and Alcohol Abuse
  • School Safety and Gun Safety
  • Bullying and Gang Violence
  • Cyber Bullying and Internet Safety
  • Child Abduction and Abuse
  • General Emergencies and Safety

Statistics of what children face
today are astounding

"Let's Chat" is a
  Unique Family Game Experience

  • Let's Chat is Unique in the fact that it literally grows up with your child. When your child is younger you are creating an open communication atmosphere approaching serious issues in a delicate manner and as they get older you are able to expand upon the serious issues with age appropriate conversations. Certainly your conversation with a 5 year old will be different than with a 10 year old. But all the while, you are building a knowledge bank of information on serious issues your child may have to face.
  • Let's Chat is Unique in the way that it encourages open communication between a parent and child which can be the most effective way of shaping your child's growth and future. But in many cases, parents do not know how to talk with their child about such important topics without making it sound scary or even worse, a lecture. "Let's Chat" takes away the awkwardness of these subjects and puts them in a very "matter of fact" way.
  • Let's Chat is Unique because every family has different dynamics and "Let's Chat" gives you the opportunity to discuss these issues in a way that is best suited for your individual family. While school may address these issues, they are addressed in such a generic way that it may not be suitable for your family with it's unique set of circumstances.
  • Let's Chat is Unique with the way it approaches children. Data shows that children learn from repetition, and in an emergency situation you want your child to know right away, without hesitation, how to react to a serious issue. Hoping that your child will know how to react is not good enough. Because your child will love to play Let's Chat with you, you have the opportunity to teach and reiterate these valuable life lessons.
  • Let's Chat is Unique by the way that it empowers the child to feel they can open up and communicate in an environment that is safe and non-threatening. Each person starts the game with a card that they can use at anytime. It says "Let's Chat about this later!" It gives the parent and child the opportunity to discuss things privately so that the child does not feel embarrassed or shy. It also gives the parents the perfect way to bring it up later when the opportunity arises.

  How To Play "Lets Chat"

Each player starts with two Wild cards, one that is blank and one that says "Let's Chat about this later."  With these cards the child can choose to use one of these cards instead of drawing a card from the deck.  The "Blank Card" empowers the child to ask their own question and gives the parents the opportunity to ask a question on their mind. The "Let's Chat About this Later Card" allows the child to chat about this at a time they feel more comfortable.

The rest of the deck of cards are in the middle of the board with a question on it along with a number of spaces to move if answered correctly (and really there are no wrong answers, just "chatting" about the issue is great.) For example: "What is Peer Pressure?" When you answer the question and have a chance to "chat" about it you move the designated spaces around the board. All players begin at the "Home" position and move around the board until they return back to the "Home" position. Because all Lessons and Adventures start from Home!

"Let's Chat" Board Game has come a long way.

When first thinking about it, I just taped file folders together and drew it out.  I was thinking about a normal neighborhood, wanting to have places on it that a child would see everyday.  While trying to make the neighborhood board look familiar, I was hoping the children would start to realize that even in familiar places knowing how to act and react to situations is helpful, sometimes even life saving.  And so "Let's Chat" started to take shape.

After Elaine and I brainstormed, we decided that right now, with everything our children face, this would be one of the perfect avenues or tools that parents could use to chat about these important and awkward issues, while in a safe and comfortable setting.  After researching tirelessly for statistics of all of these childhood issues and carefully framing the questions so that they would not put the child in an awkard situation, we began creating the questions that would both empower the child and the parent, while promoting open communication.  So Elaine took my pink board and brought my vision of "Let's Chat" to life.  We choose the bright primary colors for the pathway around the board so children would feel happy and at ease.  The game starts and ends at the "Home" spot, conveying that all lessons and adventures begin and end at home.  While this is just our prototype to give to our graphic artist, I think she did a great job!

What will we do if we get funded more than what we asked for?

After we do the Happy Dance, we plan on securing a place in the New York Toy Fair scheduled in February 2019.  We feel if we can get to the Toy Fair we have the chance to become the next "Must Have" game.  No matter the store, location, or demographics, "Let's Chat" Board game appeals to everyone.  These issues our children face everyday knows no bounds.

Risks and challenges

While all projects have Risks and Challenges, we have taken a great deal of time thinking of all possible scenarios that could arise. We have put together contingent plans for almost everything. One thing we have very little control over is our manufacturer (a USA company). We have spoken at length with our manufacturer to get realistic time frames on the time it takes to manufacture and ship. Based on these conversations we feel we have made accurate predictions as to the delivery date to you. However, this is still a small risk that we can not predict. There could be a situation where the manufacturer just received an unusually large order, or we could place our order during their high season. While they are very good to work with, and we have a great relationship with them, this could be a small risk. We intend on keeping all our Kickstarter donors well aware of each step we take, all progress made, and any changes in anything that could affect the trust you have put in us. Thank you!
