An off-beat comedy about Ex, an imaginary friend, who is forced to consider retirement when his creator, Izzy, starts to grow up.

So You've Grown Attached, an NYU Grad Film thesis short by writer/director Kate Tsang.

SYNOPSIS

So You've Grown Attached centers around Ex, an imaginary friend, who must make the tough decision whether to stay in his best friend/creator's life and risk alienating her from others or leave and let her grow up without him. Ultimately it is about learning to make the best of your given situation and the sacrifices you make for the people you really love.

WHY MAKE THIS FILM?

At the end of the day, I really just want to make entertaining movies that make people laugh and give them hope.

I'm fascinated by imaginary friends and how people create them as a way of coping with their surroundings. As an only child who spent a lot of time by myself, I would often talk to my stuffed animals and make up crazy worlds that we would go to (probably didn't help that I also watched thousands of hours of TV on top of that, but, hey, I turned out alright). I wondered though, what happens to the imaginary friends that people make up after they don't need them anymore? What if they don't go away?  What if they have to find a new life for themselves? As an imaginary friend it's a bit unfair for someone to create you for the purposes of entertaining them and then expect you to leave them alone once they're done with you. Much like a father unable to cope with his child growing up, the character Ex in my film struggles with how to make the best of the situation for him and his creator, Izzy.

THE WORLD

Since the film takes place in a stylized world of imaginary friends living in the suburbs, we'll be shooting the film in Levittown, NY (America's original 'burb) and capturing it all in glorious black and white.

The film will also feature a mix of live action and animation techniques like rotoscoping and stop motion to show how fun and magical childhood can be, especially with a best friend like EX.

Ex has a life of his own outside of Izzy and must check in with his boss at the Bureau every so often. He also has a support system of other imaginary friends as well to turn to for advice when he has to make the hardest decision of his life.

WHAT WILL YOUR DONATION DO?

We get an amazing Arri Alexa camera package from NYU and also have a dedicated crew working for next to nothing, but are still responsible for coming up with all of the funds to make our films. We've currently raised some money, but still need at least $10,000 to get the film shot, edited, through post, and out into the world.

Your donation will help pay for transportation and food for cast and crew, production design/wardrobe so everything on screen looks awesome, sound work, VFX, and festival fees to get the film out there to the public.

What if you get more than $10,000?

That would be super. $10,000 is the bare minimum we need to make this film and anything more would go towards better equipment, props, productions design, transportation, and post.

Join us on this ride! Anything you give helps!

If you can't donate but still want to help, shoot us an email to find out other opportunities to help us make this film happen.
