A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:
Proof of Concept
Explorations that test ideas and functionality.
Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.
Looks like the final product, but is not functional.
Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.
Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.
About this project
Our new Parasol Pets®, Pet Bed we call the "Tropical Retreat", is designed in the USA to be Clean, Comfortable, and Uniquely Attractive. It consists of 4 unique elements:
1. Our beautiful, Moss Green cushion is made of velvety suede cloth and memory foam molded into a comfortable, secure shape. The cushion was designed by an internationally acclaimed women’s apparel manufacturer. It is comfortable, and holds its shape throughout many washings. The cushion fits neatly into a our White Base poly base.
2. The White Base is encircled by an attractive vine design. It brings to mind a carved stone pedestal. It has an internal air chamber to insulate from cold or damp surfaces. This poly base is made of High Density Polyurethane, the same safe, and durable material as lawn furniture and some drinking cups.
3. Topping off this attractive pet bed is a beautiful Palm Leaf Umbrella, inspired by a tropical palm frond. Your pet will feel secure and sheltered in a place of comfort. Customers have said it is much more than a pet bed, "it's a Little Cabana, a Tropical Retreat".
4. Connecting these artistic components is Powder Spray-Painted, Steel Tubing. It is a moss green in color. This sturdy tubing supports the umbrella and connects it to the base.
Scientific Research Reveals:
Ethologist Claudia Vinke of Utrecht University in the Netherlands is one of the latest researchers to study stress levels in shelter cats. Working with domestic cats in a Dutch animal shelter, Vinke provided hiding boxes for a group of newly arrived cats while depriving another group of them entirely. She found a significant difference in stress levels between cats that had the boxes and those that didn’t. In effect, the cats with boxes got used to their new surroundings faster, were far less stressed early on, and were more interested in interacting with humans. *Adapted from an article at: https://www.wired.com/2015/02/whats-up-with-cats-and-boxes/
So there you have it: stress-relieving, comfort zones—places where cats can hide, relax, sleep, and occasionally launch a sneak attack against the huge, unpredictable apes they live with. Sounds like you need a Parasol Pets® Umbrella Bed –The stress relieving pet bed. * Excerpt from a Blogger, Madwire Contributor.
Parasol Pets®, Umbrella Pet Bed relieves stress with a comfy suede cloth cushion, a sturdy insulating base, and the shelter of a 26" Umbrella.
Risks and challenges
In the early stages we had several design challenges. Because we overcame them in an innovative way, we were granted 2 US Design Patents.
Attaching an umbrella to a pet bed was challenging. I first thought of using PCV pipe attached to a plastic base. However, I decided to use steel for its durability. Our design engineer, determined which gage steel tubing possessed the proper tensile strength to bend an not fold or collapse.
I insisted the base must be attractive and not plain. We decided on a vine design with leaves so detailed the vanes were depicted. As all materials must pass US safety regulations, we choose polyurethane plastic for the base. It is super durable, easy to clean, and the most widely used plastic in the world.
One challenge was developing a seamless cushion which fits precisely and snugly inside the base. This issue was solved by using a heat molding process. Suede cloth and memory foam were heat pressed to fit snugly and precisely into the base. The results is a product which is seamless, washable, and will hold its shape for years.
