It's time the world discovers the beauty of North Dakota rock climbing! We're partnering up with the North Dakota Department of Tourism in order to develop the state's natural climbing areas and publish the official North Dakota climbing guidebook.
Who We Are:
Behind this project is a team of passionate climbers and artists. The idea for the guidebook sparked with Dakota Walz, a climber from North Dakota, who returned to his home state to see for himself if there were any routes worth pursuing.
After finding a few local climbers who were able to share crucial beta and advice, Dakota teamed up with Matthew Eckelberg, Jasmin Menez, and Jonathan Trites to work together.
The guidebook will be your one-stop resource for everything you need to know to climb in North Dakota. It will contain directions for getting to crags, detailed photos of rock faces with beta for specific routes, info on best places to camp and find supplies, and which types of snakes to watch out for (namely, ones that rattle).
Additionally, we'll be using part of the funds to further develop the state's current climbing areas. These costs include the materials for trail building, route cleaning, and for placing bolts and anchors in the rock.
For every dollar we raise, the North Dakota Department of Tourism will match our funds for up to $2,500. Thanks to their efforts, the contributions we receive will go twice the distance.
The people working on this project are doing so without any form of compensation; this is a project about which we are all very passionate about. The money we receive will be split between publishing costs, development, and the rewards for our backers.
We put a lot of thought and effort into choosing rewards that place the proper value on our donors' contributions. Our backers are an essential part of the team, and our rewards aim to reflect their effort.
Risks and challenges
Thankfully, most of the risks and challenges have already been overcome. We've already done our research, secured funding from the North Dakota Department of Tourism, and spent several weeks exploring and climbing in ND. All that lies ahead is the hard work of developing routes and publishing the book, challenges we are well equipped to face.
Leading the design and publishing is Jasmin Menez, an experienced graphic designer and illustrator who has worked on similar projects in the past. The other team members are also experienced, holding three degrees in various fields of design between them.
Together, there is really no doubt that the project is in capable hands.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
