Welcome to R'lyeh
Here at TYPE40 we have been designing and making high end in-world artefacts from pop culture, movies, TV and games since 2012. If you have backed our two other successful Kickstarters, thank you, if not, then welcome to our little corner of the world.
Type40 is fully licensed by Chaosium.
Our passion for immersive props and beautiful display pieces continues with our latest piece, the Disk of R'lyeh.
We are offering a full sized, three part Disk of R'lyeh and what we are calling a "tabletop" sized version. Both will carry the same amount of intricate detail and will look fantastic as an in game prop or display piece to add to your mythos collection.
Full Sized Disk
Over 13 lbs (6KG) of solid cast aluminium, anodised in antique, aged gold and inlaid with glass gemstones. The perfect centerpiece for your campaign or addition to your mythos collection.
12 inches diameter (300mm) and approximately 1.5 inches (37mm) thick this disk looks and feels exactly how you expect, heavy.
Just over 2lbs (1KG) of electroplated die cast nickle alloy, finished in an antique gold. A beautiful memento of your visit to R'lyeh to take home with you.
Approximately 4.75 inches diameter (120mm) and 0.6 inches (15mm) thick the tabletop disk both looks and feels like a true artefact.
What is the Disk?
The Disk of R'lyeh features in the Chaosium campaign Shadows of Yog-Sothoth, a global campaign to save mankind, first published in 1982.
When designing the prototype for my Shadows of Yog-Sothoth campaign, I wanted my players to truly feel like they had found an ancient artefact, anchoring them in the world, bringing them closer to the game. We drew heavily on the description from the campaign for the design brief, layering over our own flair, creating what we think is a magnificent piece.
All of the prototyping for the full sized and tabletop sized disks is finished and the final product is ready to go.
The full sized disk is cast from solid aluminium, anodised antique gold and inlaid with glass gemstones, capturing all of the detail of the original pattern and showing off the flowing lines and intricate runes.
The tabletop sized disk is die cast nickle alloy, electroplated in antique gold and finished with glass gemstones.
Both prototypes meet our high standards.

But can we deliver?
Yes, yes we can. This is our job and we work on projects like this full time, all the time. It’s just what we do.
We have had the pleasure of making high end replicas and props for fans, enthusiasts and celebrities over the years, including the legend Stan Lee and Chris Hemsworth.
We love what we do and we live for Call of Cthulhu. We put our hearts into everything we make and feel the stars are right for us to bring the ideas we have for CoC to life and make some spectacular in-world artefacts for gamers like us.
We plan on creating more spectacular in-world artefacts that will enhance your gaming experience, be useful and look great displayed. What we want to do is utter madness but we can’t do it without you.

We have improved our shipping processes and this has allowed us to make more accurate estimates. We now have a commercial contract with Australia Post which gives us more accurate and cheaper shipping.
Although these are estimates we have worked very hard on making sure we are as close as possible.
Where people may wish to buy multiple items that aren't covered by this table, such as multiple tabletop disks, or a tabletop disk and a large disk, we will quote an accurate shipping cost for the backer.
Below is a table which shows the shipping cost in AUD for each pledge level.

Risks and challenges
We understand that every project comes with risk and we have already made steps to mitigate them where possible.
Risks we have already identified include:
We will be using an industrial foundry to cast the Disks. The foundry casts both bronze and aluminium day in day out and we have worked with them many times now in both materials. We have a good relationship with them and they understand what we want to achieve. However, because this an external supplier we do acknowledge some things are beyond our control, machine breakdowns and lead times on material and product. The consequence would be a delayed delivery schedule. However, we would know about that well in advance of the beginning of production and be able to communicate that to backers.
Each of the Disks is hand made and hand finished. One at a time. They are not mass produced and thus take a set amount of time to make each one. That time cannot be effectively reduced without compromising quality, which is not an option. An overly successful campaign may put stress upon production. This can be managed internally here at TYPE40. We have specifically put aside time in our work week to dedicate to this kickstarter if it should be successful.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
