In the last centuries of the Fifth Cycliad, a great malaise began to descend on the lands of humankind. The great civilisations of the Earth, which for aeons had seemed on the verge of slumber, now finally began to rot from within. From the edges of the world, the ever-present enemies drew close, their hungry claws poised to tear apart the delicate flesh of a fruit a hundred millennia in the ripening. And all around, a cry arose for Heroes, to stand against the dying of the light, and save the world from the sins of its past.

Imagine our own planet Earth, 100,000 years from now. Technological civilisation has fallen, lost in a mysterious cataclysm tens of millenia ago. The world has regressed to an ancient world feel, but built on the ruins of the past. Technological artefacts, barely understood, still remain; but now there are gods, too, and demons; and strange sorceries which can summon them and use their powers. The world is unutterably old, on the verge of decadence, slumber, and decay. Just waiting for that final storm to sweep it away...
That final storm is here. Chaos descends from the North; ancient enmities shake the Springtide Civilisations from within; sleeping technologies awaken beneath cities older than history. The Venerable Autocracy of Sakara, oldest empire in the world, is all that stands between humankind and annihilation.
And you. The world is crying out for heroes, to stand against the dark and prevent the dying of the light. You are warriors, generals, priests and sorcerers, artificers and healers, sages and the robbers of tombs. You are human and not-human—the world is home now to the Cousins of Man, far removed from their ancestors, and the Not-Men of Earth, said to hail from the stars. It’s a world of monsters, of sorcery, of artefacts of lethal power. And of secrets...
What was the Doom of Nayarak which precipitated the Ice Age which grips the world? Why is the godlike Venerable Autocrator no longer seen in the person of his ever-reincarnating Avatar in the Ethereal Palace of Glorious Kados? Why do the mutant shakh, the ravening hordes unleashed by the Great Hegemonist during the Armageddon of the Gods, breach the Frozen Pylons to attack the vales of Hivernium? And what caused the Devastation of Korudav, the city that burned beneath the terrifying Firecloud, and which some say burns still? All these secrets and more are yours to answer. The world is on the cusp of change. Will it fall into darkness, or be reborn in light? You are the heroes to write these new chronicles of that far distant time yet to come.
The Chronicles of Future Earth is a Fate Core-based roleplaying game of cosmic fantasy. It’s been massively modified from Fate’s core rules to include new mechanics to more closely replicate cosmic fantasy tropes. You’ll find rules for: sorcery and demons; divine magic and miracles; strange inhuman artefacts and ancient technologies; and the many worlds and bizarre dimensions which exist out there, in darkness and slumber, beyond the thresholds of the Planing Machines!
Please join us to make The Chronicles of Future Earth a reality. As well as a gorgeous hardback rule book, we’re proposing a brand new product line, with screen, dice, and tokens, adventures and campaigns, bestiaries and sourcebooks detailing the Springtide Civilisations and the lands of Future Earth. The Chronicles of Future Earth is the cousin and successor to our much-lauded transhuman space opera Mindjammer - The Roleplaying Game. With your support, we’ll bring you this fascinating new campaign setting and groundbreaking rules system in glorious detail. It is an Age of Heroes...
The final storm is coming! Pick up your flamelance and mount your winged elenisor. Prepare your sorceries to summon the demons of time, and incarnate the Lord of War on the battlefield against the ophidiacts of the Hagyan Horde.
It’s the end of the Fifth Cycliad, and the world cries out for heroes. Welcome to the Chronicles of Future Earth!
This gorgeous 388-page full-colour hardback contains everything you need to play cosmic fantasy adventures in the world of the Springtide Civilistions. It's a standalone game, featuring:
- Complete rules based on the Fate Core system, but heavily tailored to cosmic fantasy roleplaying.
- Descriptions of kindreds and homelands, including the jeniri "Cousins of Man" and the esteri "Not-Men of Earth".
- Background material on the world of Future Earth.
- Maps of the Springtide Civilisations and the Venerable Autocracy of Sakara.
- Rules for legions, fighting schools, guilds, and the temples of the Gods of the Great Compact.
- Rules for sorcery and divine magic, psionics and the powers of Hsuntach and Tiridat, and for the creation, discovery, and use of artefacts, from ancient devices to the mysterious zoans and mindstones.
- Rules for the mysterious worlds and bizarre dimensions beyond the Planing Machines.
- A core bestiary for the North of the Venerable Autocracy.
- And, unlocked in the Core Book Power-Up Stretch Goal, an additional 144 pages (making 388 in total), containing:
- Extensive history and background for the Venerable Autocracy of Sakara, oldest of the Springtide Civilisations.
- Deep gazetteer information for Korudav Province, including key personalities and encounters.
- Descriptions of all twenty Gods of the Great Compact, including their temples, magics, and demons.
- Descriptions of the cults of the Great Hegemonist and the Reaver Gods.
- Rules for constructs - cities, fortresses, towers, the gravity cannon and dragonels which defend them, ships and other... more unusual vessels!
- and much more!
A gorgeous four-panel sturdy GM's screen, featuring stunning original artwork by Jason Juta and a raft of reference material useful during play, this also expands to include the mini-adventure THE TOWER OF VIRIGU once we unlocked the £12.5K stretch goal!
This full-colour A2 poster map features gorgeous cartography by Jason Juta, presenting an overview of the Springtide Civilisations - the world of The Chronicles of Future Earth. From the Venerable Autocracy in the west, to the bleak Chaos Wastes and the endless ice of the north, to the semi-mythical lands of alien Ingush, Far Shuash, and the Deserts of Chand, this is a world of mysteries, a world grown strange with time.
The Chronicles of Future Earth uses Chronicles Dice - six-sided dice called Hero Dice and Doom Dice. This set provides two of each, providing for those extra dice when you're invoking your doom, facing up against huge foes, or incarnating your divine avatar!
This set of 25 Fate Tokens is enough for your entire game table, emblazoned with the glyph of the Venerable Autocracy of Sakara, seat of the God-Emperor Ankadar the Lawmaker and oldest of the Springtide Civilisations.
The Chronicles Dice and Tokens come in a handy bag with the Chronicles logo, so you're always prepared for play!
The Tower of Virigu - our first stretch goal! - is a 32-page adventure. Following the Devastation of Korudav, the Tower of Virigu, on the edge of the Timosian Properties, beneath the Sheal Highlands north of the frontier city of Sapedra, has gone silent beneath the onslaught of ravening Chaos Beasts. For centuries the seat of the ancient Virikki family of the Tunguddi, it has protected ancient knowledge and uncanny artefacts guarding the Autocracy's northern frontier. Is the Tunguddi still alive? And can you battle through the infestation of the Shakh to relieve his priceless defences?
Added to the Chronicler Pack at no extra cost - also available as an Add-On!
The Player Character Folio is our second unlocked stretch goal, and is a 16-page folio containing: character sheet and character creation worksheets; rules summaries; and background information for the Venerable Autocracy of Sakara. It's specifically designed for the use of players during play - a handy game reference with everything at your fingertips!
Added to the Chronicler Pack at no extra cost, and also available as an Add-On. We've added a special "PC Folio 4-Pack" Add-On containing 4 copies of the Folio at a great discount, so you can have one Player Character Folio for every player at your table! See the "Add-Ons" section below!
Add-Ons are additional copies of The Chronicles of Future Earth products you can add to your pledge; at the moment they include copies of The Chronicles of Future Earth core book, the GM screen, the Map of Korudav, the Chronicles Fate Tokens, the Chronicles Dice, and the Chronicles Dice Bag. As the Kickstarter progresses we'll be adding more!
See the Shipping section below for how Add-Ons affect your shipping.
How to Add an Add-On
To add an Add-On to your pledge, simply click on the blue MANAGE button next to your pledge total at the top of this page, to change your pledge total to include the cost of the Add-Ons you want, as shown below.
For example, if you're currently pledged at the £40 (appx $52) The Chronicles of Future Earth RPG Core Rulebook Print + PDF pledge level, and you'd like to add a copy of the GM Screen as an Add-On, simply click on MANAGE and increase your pledge total from £40 to £60 (appx $80). When the Kickstarter ends, we'll invite you to our Pledge Manager where you can tell us exactly what your pledge total covers, and also manage your shipping, shipping address, and so on.
Note that all book Add-Ons are printed physical copies; PDFs are included free with the PDF Master and Print + PDF Master pledge levels and above. Any pledge level may choose Add-Ons.
Shipping will be calculated for you automatically in the Pledge Manager, which we'll invite you to at the end of the Kickstarter. We'll also liaise with you via the Pledge Manager to find out just when, where and how you'd like to receive your books. You can use the table below to get a rough idea of the cost of shipping.
You can share shipping costs with one or more friends. One backer will pay for the shipping for everyone.
You can also pick up for free from the Modiphius London office. Convention pickups are possible but we don't guarantee them.
We like to support retailers through our Kickstarters and offer an attractive package. You can use the RETAILER pledge to make a deposit of £20 towards your order of a minimum of 6 core books at the usual wholesale pricing. After the Kickstarter we will contact you to see what other items you would like to add to your order but you only pay for your order when we are ready to ship. All books come with PDF versions. We will require confirmation of retail ID.
Mindjammer Press has assembled an expert team to accompany you on your adventures in the world of the Springtide Civilisations, including:
Sarah Newton is the award-winning RPG author of Mindjammer, Achtung! Cthulhu, Legends of Anglerre, Fate Worlds: Burn Shift, The Chronicles of Future Earth, Monsters & Magic, and more, and has recently translated and written on our previous Kickstarter for CAPHARNAUM - THE TALES OF THE DRAGON-MARKED. Co-director of Mindjammer Press, she ran the successful Kickstarters for MINDJAMMER - THE ROLEPLAYING GAME in 2015, which has delivered ten brand new products for the Mindjammer line to date, and CAPHARNAUM in 2017, which has just delivered its core book and is in the process of producing the second and third titles in the line. Sarah has been working on THE CHRONICLES OF FUTURE EARTH for almost twenty years; she's responsible for the final text of the books, managing the project, editing the books, and making sure every product meets the high standards fans of Mindjammer Press and Modiphius products have come to expect.
Jason Juta (Capharnaum, Mindjammer, Monsters & Magic, Shadowrun, Gamma World, Warhammer 40K, Battletech, Song of Ice and Fire, and much more) is Art Director of Mindjammer Press, and the creative force behind the visual identity of all our books and games. He's been producing the spectacular visuals on The Chronicles of Future Earth. He's also our layout artist, and will be responsible for all the visual aspects of the line.
John Snead (Mindjammer, Aeon Trinity, Exalted, Eclipse Phase, Dying Earth, Blue Planet, Mage, and much more) is our resident gear-head and imagineer of the New Commonality, and co-lead on the Mindjammer line. He's stepping through the planing machines to help explore the Springtide Civilisations.
David Donachie (Mindjammer, Solipsist, Legends of Anglerre, The Collective Endeavour) is both webmaster and writer at Mindjammer Press, and will be keeping a close eye on our website updates and communications at MindjammerPress.com. As one of the writers of Legends of Anglerre, we welcome David back to the Fate Fantasy fold with The Chronicles of Future Earth!
Chris and Rita Birch and the whole team at Modiphius Entertainment are our mentors and consultants for all things Kickstarter and publishing. They provide us with a great deal of advice and support, allowing us to draw upon their experience with huge Kickstarter projects such as CONAN - ADVENTURES IN AN AGE UNDREAMED OF, STAR TREK ADVENTURES, and the upcoming DUNE RPG. Chris and Sarah have been working together on RPG projects for 10 years, and MODIPHIUS is also our distribution partner, providing us with services and consultancy to help us get our Kickstarter products to you, our Backers, and to the wider world, smoothly and efficiently.
Risks and challenges
This is our third Kickstarter at Mindjammer Press, and we' ve learned a great deal from the previous two, both of which were successful, first for MINDJAMMER - THE ROLEPLAYING GAME, which delivered its products in three waves in April 2016, January 2017, and November 2017, and then with Capharnaum, which delivered its first wave in July 2018 and expects to deliver its second in January 2019. With THE CHRONICLES OF FUTURE EARTH, we have the core book substantially written and playtested, expected to go into layout in late 2018, with art direction underway. We anticipate no delays in getting the PDF ready for March 2019 and the print version a month later. We're keeping a close eye on the scope of the Chronicles line, with a larger default offering (The "Chronicler Pack") ensuring we hit the ground running in the second quarter of 2019, with subsequent waves at 6-9 month intervals thereafter. As ever, we'll keep you updated during the Kickstarter and after.
We feel we're in great position to produce THE CHRONICLES OF FUTURE EARTH. Sarah, as the setting creator, has an encyclopedic knowledge of the universe and access to several hundred thousand words of original source material written over the course of 20 years. Additionally, this is her fifth Fate product (Mindjammer 1st edition for Starblazer Adventures, Legends of Anglerre, Mindjammer, Burn Shift, and now Chronicles), giving us a deep knowledge of the game mechanics and their parameters to attempt something exciting and innovative with "Chronicles Fate".
We've also had a lot of experience with pledge managers and fulfilment, and will be taking advantage of the increased flexibility pledge managers offer for shipping calculations by weight and "wave". Based on our previous experiences with pledge managers, we've built two months post-kickstarter processing into our schedule to handle the shipping administration.
Our previous kickstarters have enabled us to build a team of experienced professionals who are used to working together with clear processes, and we're already leveraging that with the Chronicles Kickstarter. Jason and Sarah are in the Kickstarter production team, and Sarah has a clear schedule for the duration of the Kickstarter and dedicated time to manage it thereafter. We also have John Snead and David Donachie helping with comms and outreach, and Stephan Barat from Studio Deadcrows providing administrative support.
We're also honoured and very grateful to be working with Modiphius Entertainment and GamesQuest on Kickstarter management, comms, distribution, and fulfilment. Chris Birch and his Modiphius team are always there with invaluable advice drawn from their massively successful Kickstarters, and, as with our previous Kickstarters, we expect to draw on that to help us ensure a smooth experience for all our customers!
Like all other UK companies, Mindjammer Press is facing uncertainty because of Brexit, expecting to occur in March-April 2019. We're keeping a weather eye on developments, and have backup processes in place to help us handle events as best as possible. We still live in interesting times!
Finally, of course, Mindjammer Press remains a small, family-run company, and all of us are working here because we love gaming and writing and producing games. But we're (still mostly) human, and extraordinary events in people's personal lives do happen. However, we believe that we've made some prudent provisions to make sure we're flexible enough to cope with such events, by having the text substantially ready to go, art direction and layout design already well underway, and a clear project plan throughout the Kickstarter fulfilment period. Rest assured that we'll continue to communicate clearly and regularly to you right through the Kickstarter and its subsequent fulfilment period and let you know of any developments.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
