clapTON ensemble aims to fill a void on the London new music scene by programming works of international composers who are either already well-known in Continental Europe or emerging there, but whose music has not reached a wider audience in the UK yet.
Our first concert includes works by the already renowned Pierluigi Billone and Rebecca Saunders, as well as by the lesser-known and younger, but by no means less interesting Luciano Azzigotti, Santiago Diez Fischer and Anna Romashkova.
The concert at Hundred Years Gallery on 10 June 2014 is probably the first time the legendary maestro Pierluigi Billone's work gets played in London. And for that, we are bringing over two of Christian Dierstein's students from Basel - Victor Barcelo and Roberto Maqueda. The renowned percussionist Dierstein has worked extensively with Pierluigi Billone and has transmitted his expertise to his students. Therefore we find that they are the best people to give a London premiere of Billone's work.
The two Basel percussionists will also play Luciano Azzigotti's quirky microbeatLogic for bearing balls, conical springs, magnets and two amplified containers that requires an elaborate set-up and very specific "instruments" that they will bring with them from Basel.
We are appealing for your support to pay for the plane tickets of the percussionists. Dear new music friends in the UK, please contribute to make this unique event happen!
Risks and challenges
The concert could get disrupted by travel delays/cancellations. We have taken precautions and planned travel with enough time and a small contingency in the budget.
In case a performer gets seriously ill, we can either replace them at short notice (possibly this will bring about a small change in the programme) or just cancel the piece, making the concert shorter.
Accidents with luggage (gets lost, breaks) - with our contingency budget we can replace the lost/damaged items.
