Why was Measure B "Condoms in Porn" on LA County ballots in 2012? What parts of the campaigns (for and against) worked? TV documentary
A year ago, Los Angeles City Council conceded to AHF to create a city ordinance enforcing the use of condoms in porn, in order to keep the question off of ballots (and perhaps save money) in the June primary. Yet that wasn't enough - AHF found a way to put the question on the ballot in the general election... this documentary will be an effort to examine what happened and why... perhaps the results will be useful to others who plan ballot initiatives in LA city or county, or to people who want to know how the adult entertainment industry plans to react - with court challenges or relocation. Maybe its just weird enough to be interesting after all it made national news...
I have short video clips and livestream archives from legal panels and public events related to the issue (see the example I've uploaded here) to work with a year ago, and I am raising money to edit them, to conduct research and additional interviews to figure out what happened, why, and if it matters...
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Challenges include affording travel to and around Los Angeles and Las Vegas to interview participants in these campaigns, capturing higher quality audio and video of future interviews and securing use of video editing gear. I am reasonably well acquainted with both cities, and the technical and legal experts in the adult entertainment industry.
I have been getting lots of experience and training with video production for television with my local cable access channel over the last six months, and over decade ago I had 2 years of high school coursework and 2 years of paid experience with television production for educational access television in St. Paul, MN. I believe I have the technical know how to create this and get cable access distribution in multiple markets in MN, and getting the video distributed online via YouTube, etc will be straightforward.
