About this project

Coopdanza. Inc/ Cristina Cortes’s Artistic Residency at Indigenous territories in Colombia, during the celebration of the 40 years of resistance of the Consejo Regional Indigena del Cauca CRIC.
The return of the Condor is a dance/sound/video installation about the legacy, memories and dreams of Manuel Quintin Lame (Nasa, born in 1880 and died in 1967). A collaborative creation about the ancestral universe, the convoluted present and the future of the memory and legacy of the most important Indigenous rebel in Colombia. A virtual structure resembling a jail cell in a Multi-channel public scale projection with original Indigenous vocals, contemporary and Pre-Columbian sound elements and atmospheres, still images, dance video, archive footage and after effects.
During a process of about 12 months, started last July we are engaging in field research, study, the development of two artistic residencies, training, exchange, rehearsing and the assembling of the co-production of the montage. Additional activities like workshops to the community, lecture demonstrations and showing of work in progress are expected. At this point we are preparing the second artistic residency in Cauca, Colombia will take place from November to December 2010 to search for the Indian component of our cast.
Participants will be Indigenous youngsters, traditional dancers and members of the Indigenous Guard in a unique experience of exchanging and sharing tradition and legacy with contemporary dancers, concepts and technique.
HELP US TO FUND: TRANSPORTATION, TRAINING, FOOD, TRAVELING AND HOSTING THEM AT THE LAST AUDITION WITH THE FINAL CAST IN POPAYAN , COLOMBIA.
