"...responsabilities - familiar, laboral, etc. - have reduced the time we could use for our hobby and it was frustrating to waste time looking for rules and remembering the plot, so we started thinking on Digitald20..." See more
It is a platform for distributing d20 system adventures in a new digital format that aims to change the way the adventures are prepared and ran, with the help of new technologies (tablets) but maintaining the romanticism of paper and pencil. You will be able to share your own modules with the gaming community.
With Digitald20 you will have all the information required to run a single d20 module in a fast, clear and straightforward way. But that is not all, Digitald20 is much more than a digital publication; it relays in the new interface Gamethrough.
Gamethrough is the interface that the gamemaster will use during any Digitald20 module. It is born to optimize the time taken to prepare and play any d20 adventure. Gamethrough provides a natural and friendly interface simplifying the labor of gamemastering and making easier the annoying task of consulting any kind of data as spells, feats or even character relationship. Furthermore, Gamethrough will include a basic editing tool that will allow to create and share your adventures with other players.
It also shows an interactive real time map that reflects the chronological moment, the physical place where the players are situated on the plot and the possible future situations where the players could go. This simplifies the gamemastering of non lineal adventures, where the decisions of the players change the curse of the story, and there is also a huge quantity of non playing characters and events that could be met or happen.
PENCIL & PAPER
Digitald20 does not leave away the paper and pen spirit. The games will continue to be run on same way but with the help of technology.
Players will be able to use a mobile app connected to the gamemaster tablet, mainly for tracking the adventure development. A small diary will be created automatically with a quote of the events they have faced during of the adventure including all the adventure stuff (letters, excerpts, illustrations, etc.) they have collected. This will help them to remember the current situation between game sessions. Of course, the use of this app will be optional.
With Digitald20 you could acquire complete campaigns composed by chapters that could be downloaded individually also.
Each chapter is going to be a complete adventure of two typical game play sessions with the Gamethrough interface. Each chapter will contain:
- Gamethrough interactive conceptual map.
All the Spells, Feats, Magic objects and Skills that turn up in the adventure in order to avoid the need of any book else.
- Plot for two game play sessions.
Descriptions, statistics and illustrations of relevant characters and villains.
Descriptions, statistics and illustrations of relevant monsters.
- Encounters page, which include maps, statistics and enemies tactics.
- Artwork, sound effects and music.
- Digital gamming aids, maps and dice.
- Player’s App that contains maps and artwork.
At the beginning we will release in English and Spanish, and we are willing to add more languages as we see the demand. When you make your pledge you will have the chance to vote for an additional language.
We will create unique and original experiences through our adventures for both players and gamemasters. The initial campaign (14 modules, more or less the equivalent to a 600 pages book) would let the players to advance from 1st level up to Epic levels.
Digitald20 campaign strong points will be the plot development and the deepness of Non-playing characters, places and events. In fact, our objective is that they could be enjoyed like a good novel or a TV series. Our objective is to make each group of players to feel how the world changes around as they take their own decisions.
All adventures will be suitable to be adapted to any fantasy pre-existent world or other d20 system games. There will be directives to match in different geography’s, cosmologies and societies of any world. Illustrations, as also music, videos and sound effects, will be exclusive of each adventure in order to achieve the perfect complement to immerse players in the story. In order to avoid the loss of the players wow effect, we really do not wish to reveal much details of our campaign first plot. Anyway take a look on the two example encounters on this page (just click on them).
In our first adventures we will count on with the collaboration of the graphic artists Luis Ibañez and Isabel Fernández that will work close to the scriptwriters with the aim to create correct atmosphere in our modules.
The funds will be dedicated to pay developers, scriptwriters, graphic artists and musicians. The technical direction will be on charge of Fernando Setien and the artistic direction on Fernando Garcia. Some of the needed task, as scripted plots or the technical design, are already advanced. That is why we think we would be able to launch the project with £50,000.
As much funding we get more funds will be dedicated to artwork in order to achieve something more spectacular. Besides, depending on the funds we collect and the social network support we will add the following functionalities:
We will develop for the main tablet platforms Android and iOS and hopefully also for Windows Phone/RT. We will create Apps downloadable from the respective markets, which will embed a WebKit for loading HTML5 + CSS content in a way similar to the Baker digital publication platform. The adventure market and some other functionality as virtual map or dice will remain as a native app.

Risks and challenges
We are aware of the limitations of HTML5 technology for developing embedded tablets apps. But we think we are sure that we have created a good design and that we will be able to develop all the functionality promised.
As all technology projects there could be some unexpected events that could delay the development.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
