About this project
LITTLE STAR THRONE
The chair you see in the video is a prototype in painted polystyrene, today the Little Star Chair does not still exist and to be able to realize it we have to build a steel mold similar to the ones you can see in the pictures.
In order to build our mold for the rotational we start from a solid block of steel that is dug with the shape of the Little Star Chair with a numerical control machine. The rotational molding technique has this name because the mold rotates while the object is printed. The polyethylene is inserted inside and the rotation does deposit it on the inner surface of the mold. The armchair remains hollow inside and therefore lighter. The realization of the mold is rather expensive and it only makes sense if we have to print a good number of chairs, which is why we need the help of many supporters, in order to be sure that the cost of the mold can be redistributed on a good number of chairs without making the single price too high.
The prototype was built by hand by a talented Italian artisan named Edoardo who has also worked with many historical Italian design companies, Edoardo has shaped polystyrene as a true sculptor and then he painted it in yellow. He loved so much this project that he wanted to do the prototype for free.
When Edoardo brought us the model in our office, we were delighted, the Little Star Chair was exactly as we wanted. Camilla, my co-worker who has worked hard on this project, was so excited that she wanted to try it even though she is "a bit bigger" than a child!
Finally the prototype was ready to shoot the video, we were all curious to know if the chair would also loved by our children, Marina and Raul. As it is easy to understand in the various pictures Marina has felt as real princess and Raul did not want longer leave the chair, he sat down on the armrest going on to play the video game.
Immediately after the end of the campaign, we will finalize the design for manufacturing process, according to the demand of the Little Star Chair.
Shipping costs, packaging and destination countries
The Little Star Chair will be shipped in a single cardboard box ready to use. In case of a 2 or more Little Star Chairs pledge, you will receive 2 or more separate boxes.
Even if the Little Star Chair package is light, it is quite bulky, and then shipping costs are a bit high. We subsidize some of these costs in order to have an acceptable landing cost for our backers. Considering that the Little Star Chair will be shipped in single cardboard box, the shipping cost is inevitably proportionally increased in case of 2 or more Little Star Chairs pledge.
Sales taxes and import duties
Please check with your local customs authority considering that backers will be responsible for paying local duties and taxes.
Risks and challenges
We are a team of experienced professionals co-operating with established producer of polyethylene items with the rotational molding technology, all based in Italy.
As with any project which needs a mould, is possible having scheduled risks associated with manufacturing and supply chain logistics.
Little Star Chair uses an existing technology, so we do not have to invent a new technology to make a high quality product.
The primary risk is of production delays, however we scheduled relatively large delivery times so we are confident not to run into delays.
If we should produce more than 1000 Little Star Chairs, them will delvered a bit later than November 2017.
Our goal is to inform all our backers of the project status and keep you always updated.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
