Uzomuzo is a group of cartoonists, illustrators and manga-ka based in Nagoya, Japan. We collaborate on jam-comics, 24 hour comics and all sorts of other projects with the goal of promoting more experimental and alternative style comics in Japan. We mix styles and influences as well as our own various cultural approaches to story telling in an attempt to bridge the gap between Western style comics and Japanese manga. To that end, our comics are also bilingual.
To help foster a spirit of independence, creativity and inspiration in the Japanese comics scene, we hope to distribute this magazine for free in Japan, and for as cheap as possible abroad. We also hope to showcase exciting new talent from Japan and introduce a more contemporary and edgy type of manga to the world.
How the money will be used: The money will be spent on printing costs, as well as shipping and distribution costs. Any money above our target will be put into the production of the book, either to print additional copies, or raise the quality of printing, binding and overall aesthetic.
Why Kickstarter: We believe the purpose of kickstarter is not only to fund projects but to build a community and involve others in our creative project. We hope to get the word out to many people, which is why we have included rewards at the lowest level to get as many people involved as possible.
Where will Uzomuzo be distributed: We will start here in central Japan, but hope to distribute it throughout the country, and abroad. If you would like to carry Uzomuzo at your store or help us get the word out, please get in contact with us!
