I'm making potato salad.
I'm making potato salad.
I'm making potato salad.
6,911 backers pledged $55,492 to help bring this project to life.

Hey there Backers! I can't believe the Kickstarter ends in 3 days!! There have been a lot of questions about how I plan to fulfill all of the promises I made in this campaign and I am going to do my best to answer them here!

But first, I want to announce the event that I have been hinting at for the last 3 weeks. PotatoStock 2014 is happening!!

We have a giant outdoor space reserved (The Columbus Commons) for September 27th, 2014, from noon to 8pm. The show is free and all proceeds from selling concessions will go to a permanent fund to end hunger and homelessness in Central Ohio. We are currently working to sign bands and will continue to post updates as we get them!

On the bill so far are Columbus, Ohio, artists Jordan O'Jordan and Counterfeit Madison! We are looking for a headliner and would love to get a kid-friendly band for the noon slot! You free, Shazzbots?

Ok, here's how I will fulfill the rest of the promises:

"You will get a thank-you posted to our website."

In the next few weeks, we will be launching a website where we will continue to post videos and updates. Potato Salad will be the focus between now and PotatoStock (September 27, 2014, from noon to 8pm at the Columbus Commons) but we want to continue to laugh with you all, so after September 27th, we'll be making more stuff that we find funny and posting it to this website! And if you pledged $1 or more, your name will live on that website 5eva (which is more than 4eva) at the top of a thank-you note. I will use the same name you have me read out-loud, which brings me to...

"I will say your name out loud while making the potato salad."

I will say your name out loud while making the potato salad!!!!! You will get video proof of me saying your name while VERY slowly making potato salad. Will I be boiling potatoes? Chopping vegetables? Stirring the ingredients together? It's a surprise! YOU WILL GET VIDEO PROOF

"Receive a photo of me making the potato salad."

We are still working on getting this completely ironed out. You will either receive a digital copy of the photo or a postcard in the mail. I wish I had the answer to this.

"Receive a bite of the potato salad"

We are unable to send potato salad through the mail. If you can get to PotatoStock, you get your bite of potato salad! I am working with some sponsors to make a few stops around the US and Canada (I won't mention sponsors here, but you can find out more by following me on twitter). Backers will be able to get their bite at any of these trips. I will let you know as I get more information.

"Choose a potato-salad-appropriate ingredient to add to the potato salad"

Well, this one is going to be tough. There are currently 579 of you! Instead of letting each of you choose an ingredient, I will ask you in the survey to submit a potato salad recipe. After a couple weeks of gathering recipes, I will send a survey out and the recipe with the most votes will be the 'official' PotatoStock 2014 potato salad.

Haikus, Signed Mayo and Names Carved in Potatoes

The four backers that got these rewards early will be getting haikus / signed mayo and their names carved in potatoes.

"Hang out in the kitchen with me while I make the potato salad."

Oh man, there are so many of you. AND YOU'RE ALL INVITED. I will send out RSVPs to see how big a kitchen we need, but if you are planning on being in Columbus for PotatoStock (September 27th, 2014, noon to 8pm, Columbus Commons), you can hang out with me (and my friends) while we all make potato salad in an industrial kitchen!!

Potato Salad Hat!

We are working on getting a design done! I think we'll do the message "I love potato salad" on a trucker hat.

Potato Salad Shirt!

As soon as we've collected all backers' address information, we'll start sending them out!

Potato Salads of the World

Our friend Brandon is an amazing cook and will be making a bunch of potato salad recipes!

Pizza Party

There will be pizza at PotatoStock!

Calling a chef

I'm traveling to Toronto, Canada to learn how to make Canadian potato salad! I hope to bring back the skills I learn!

Live-stream of Potato Salad making

We will be doing this before PotatoStock! We are still looking for a partner to help us live-stream.

Thank-you video

Vegan potato salad

Yep! We have a partner that will be giving us vegan mayo (again, won't be mentioning sponsors here, but you can follow me on Twitter).

"What are you going to do with all that money????"

Ok, this is the big / serious one. I hope you've all made it this far. I got really tired writing all of that, I can only imagine reading it was pretty rough. We are going to contribute a significant portion of the remaining money to the fund at the Columbus Foundation. This will create a permanent fund to help Central Ohio's non-profits end hunger and homelessness. These types of funds gain interest every year and grow over time, so, while our little internet joke will one day be forgotten, the impact will be felt forever.

We believe that humor plays a big role in making the world a better place. We plan to use some of the profit from this campaign to start an LLC, pay web hosting and buy / rent production equipment to continue making content. Our LLC will be a for-profit venture and its goal will be to spread humor and joy around the world.

We will update all backers with the exact amount of money that is spent on both the for-profit and non-profit entities. Ultimately, our goal is to be as transparent as possible!

OK, I love you all! Thank you so much for supporting us! I'm so happy we all got to laugh together. See you at PotatoStock 2014.

Back atcha Tarquin - You finally did it! I'm totally cracking up!! I read the response to me first, (ego), and was laughing out loud. Then I read the response to DeVorah and almost fell off my chair. (All in good fun, Devorah...) - It's been a pleasure, sir!

    2. Tarquin F'tang-F'tang-Olé-Biscuitbarrel on August 1, 2014

@Devorah - It was several hundred comments and backers ago that I estimated how long, but it only takes 7.5 seconds to say my name. Muliply by 6,777 backers and you get 50,827.5 seconds, or 14 hours and 7 minutes. Child's play, really. Also, you misspelled your name- there's no "V" in "Deborah."

@G Brooks - Well, he must be one of those recalcitrant Welsh, what with their hopping about in circles, stringing random consonants and vowels together until they run out of breath and start the next word. I'm Welsh on my mother's side, the Fin-tim-lin-bin-whin-bim-lim-bus-stops of Llanfairpwllgwyngyll (that being the Anglicised version of the family name and the short version of the town's name.) We're all very silly, you know.

Kudos to you, TFtlbwblbsFFOB! You, at least, have the good graces to hyphenate, as opposed to Mojaloneleighkleiaumouenaoumouiopowuiosi, who posted in the main comment section and then added a veiled threat for mispronunciation. Some people...

Tarquin F'tang F'tang - If everyone claimed such a moniker, the process would take YEARS...God/dess love you, but I really hope you are in the Minority....Else wise....Far too onerous.....

    5. Tarquin F'tang-F'tang-Olé-Biscuitbarrel on July 31, 2014

Thanks for the update, Zack Danger Brown! I am looking forward to you saying my FULL name while you slowly making potato salad: Tarquin Fin-tim-lin-bin-whin-bim-lim-bus-stop-F'tang-F'tang-Olé-Biscuitbarrel. If you like you may say my name slowly as well, or as a haiku, although it is unfortunately one "F'Tang" too long for the 17-syllable structure. Perhaps we could add my middle name, and you could say that as a 31-syllable tanka?

How should bands get a hold of you about playing Potato Stock?

    7. Myca Arcangel on July 30, 2014

Can someone go in my stead to get the bite of potato salad/hang out in the kitchen wit hyou? I thought the event would be in December and I was going to be in Ohio that time, but I guess not! So sad to miss it! If you guys come by southern California I will definitely eat your potato salad.

    8. Perry Clarke on July 30, 2014

Nice! Classy way to fulfill your promises.

    9. Devorah Brehony on July 30, 2014

Congratulations and well-played, Zack Danger Brown! You have made every effort to fulfil your promises, and I have made good on mine as well. My pledge to your project has just been increased to the Recipe Book Reward Level. Thank you for making me giggle over the past month!

I hope there will be a stop in Seattle for the potato salad! We've been talking about it at work quite a bit.

Bravo Zack & Co! You've stepped right up and are off to a great start. I'm SO happy PotatoStock is happening sooner, (keeps the momentum going) rather than later, not to mention in Sept. rather than Dec. (Brrrrrrr...) I hope I can make it! Regardless, I eagerly anticipate following the ongoing process as you move forward.

One last thing, Don't let people get to you about how you handle "the money". With an undertaking of this scope, you may find that the dough is utilized much more quickly than you anticipate. I'm sure the majority of us trust you implicitly.

Best of luck! You and your cohorts are in for a wild time...! And THANKS!

I hope you come to Portland!

If you need any help on Bacon let me know. I sell Sugardale bacon in the Toronto area. Whats better is its an Ohio based company with 3 plants right in Ohio.

    17. Stephanie on July 29, 2014

Well done, Zack. This must have been an incredible amount of work in a short period of time. Congrats!

Solid plan man. Excellent ideas on how to manage this. Well thought out and I'm looking forward to seeing your continued success.

Just moved to Ohio from Houston. My timing was impeccable. I brought Manziel with me (sorry); don't think he'd be a good tater salad ingredient but hopefully he'll be a good one for the Browns. Zach; enjoyed the hell out of all of this. See you in a few weeks.
