Help us make Faire Play everything it can be!
Faire Play was founded in 2007 as property dedicated to LARP and other medieval-setting events. What began as a simple cattle farm has been transformed into a beautiful, immersive medieval setting. So far the camp has built many additions to the land, including several free-standing cabins, beds, multiple rooms, medieval paneling on the barn and cabins, furnished "Inn" space, a basement "dungeon" area, landscaped trails, and even a floor built entirely from scratch. These projects were all accomplished through substantial investments of time and effort from staff and players of the LARPs which call Faire Play home. Every bit of it has been worth it though to accomplish a truly great setting for the stories we're trying to tell.
Whether at Legacy or Alliance, Faire Play has been an amazing part of our LARP experience. So many LARPs live and die without ever finding a home as accommodating, comfortable, and immersive as Faire Play. The staff at these games have every intention of building up the camp to meet it's full potential, but we need help! Our players have been amazing in terms of support and we're calling on you guys again to pitch in however you can. With your pledge, we can start to knock out some of the biggest projects looming over us.
What you're funding.
We still have a long way to go! What we're looking for out of this Kickstarter is to knock out some of the biggest obstacles to completing the camp, and making it comfortable for players. In our ceaseless quest to make Faire Play everything it can be, we have identified a few big areas of need for the camp. We'll list here some of the biggest things we'd like to see out of this project:
1. Mattresses for all the bunks. We plan on using these: http://www.americanbeddingmfg.com/mattresses/camp-mattress.html
2. Make the camp ready for winter events! Everything from space heaters to insulation for the rooms and cabins.
3. Outfitting the basement area to be a more functional Mod site, complete with true moving walls and extensive decoration.
4. Create additional Mod sites in the woods. An Orc camp by the river, complete with spiked fence and bone piles? A gypsy wagon caravan parked at the edge of the treeline? We will build it all if we reach enough funding.
5. A fully realized, elaborate smithy.
6. Additional cabins and rooms.
What's in it for you?
We aren't just asking for charity here though. Legacy and Alliance are providing great rewards for players willing to pitch in. With your pledge, you get the corresponding reward listed on the sidebar. If you play at Legacy, you get the Legacy reward. If you play at Alliance, you get the Alliance reward. If you play at both games, you get both sets of rewards! Just note that the rewards don't "carry over". Thus, if you get a parking space as a Legacy reward, you don't get to keep that for Alliance. Also note that you have to attend the games at least once to get the reward, so you won't be getting a Legacy hoodie if you've never been. We will deliver on the rewards as soon as we're able. For most, this should be April, but for the hoodies and t-shirts it's possible that it could take a bit longer.
It might be a bit confusing for the Legacy rewards so to clarify: if you pledge $50 or more, you get the rewards from all tiers for pledges of $50 or more, but you can not gain more than 200 Service or +4 HP and +4 MP.
As a side note, if, for whatever reason, you don't wish to receive a reward simply send us a message telling us so. If you want to keep your donation anonymous we're happy to comply.
What if we go over the goal?
With any luck, we will. If we do, all the money earned over the goal goes straight back into the camp to fund other big projects. Usually the income from the games themselves is all we have to fund these things, but if we do get more, we can use that to purchase insulation for every building, build more bunks, buy new furnishings for the inn, improve the kitchen, build another cabin, or just improve some of the trails and outlying areas of the camp. There is an endless amount of improvement possible on such a large camp and we'll never stop making Faire Play a better place to play. Soon, Faire Play will be the undisputed best camp on the East Coast, and this Kickstarter will be part of that!
Risks and challenges
We have carefully researched the providers for the items we need to buy and ensured that they will be able to fill our orders quickly and efficiently, but we recognize that there may be some hiccups along the way. Whatever the case, know that as long as we reach our goal, there will be mattresses on the camp for next season, even if we have to go pick them up ourselves. The staff at Legacy and Alliance is accustomed to having to think quickly and adjust to strange circumstances. Whatever obstacles we may meet, so long as the project is funded, everyone will get their rewards and the mattresses (and any other things we get funded for) will be in place as soon as they can be.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
