White Buffalo Gold is my debut novel. The book is written, edited, proofread, the interior design is finished, and we're now in cover design phase. I need money to finish book design and pay a publicist to help me run a marketing campaign from October 1 to November 24 this year, including developing a book blog tour, to help make it a complete success. Excess funds from this kickstarter will help me enter indie fiction contests, put together a classy display for my book signings (marketing materials) and help carry the project through the holiday shopping season.
Ever since she can remember, Emily Zimmerman’s been searching for gold in Nebraska’s South Loup River. Harmony, her hometown, is notorious for a gold rush which happened in the 1800s, but it bothers Emily that she can’t find even a fleck of gold in the river. When she graduates high school she ends up working in the local nursing home where she meets Owen Thibodeaux, a retired professor of geology who can’t quite remember what it was he once learned about Harmony’s gold. It’s literary fiction, meaning it’s smart, quirky and sort of serious, but still really fun. It will make you laugh, and it will make you cry. People who’ve read the manuscript say it’s ambitious, and it has also been described as a jigsaw puzzle (with no pieces missing at the end!) It accounts for 130 years of history and covers the USA from New York to Alaska, but White Buffalo Gold is set in the Midwest in the year 1992. The book also tracks subplots of four other characters who graduate high school with Emily, as well as other staff and residents in the nursing home, gradually revealing lives intertwined in a twisted way that only a small town can produce. Themes include discovering life purpose, dealing with regrets, and the decisions America’s young people face when they grow up in dying towns.
