If you couldn't already tell we're determined to bring King Con: Middle Georgia's Gaming Convention to life! You may or may not know that this is our second King Con Kickstarter. Our first one didn't fund, and that's ok. Instead of giving up, we've decided to regroup, take in some suggestions and push forward.
So what are we doing differently this time around?
First, we're lowering our Kickstarter funding goal. Instead of aiming for a larger con, one with all the bells and whistles, we've realized that we can just as much fun with a modest con. Because of this, the funding goal is going to only cover the rental for the venue and the tables needed to game.
As we start to reach our funding goal, we can then add stretch goals that will allow us to build to bigger and better things!
What is King Con 2013?
King Con 2013 is a fast growing gaming convention hosted in the Middle Georgia area (Macon/Warner Robins). Our target date for the convention is November 2nd 2013. The convention mainly focuses on different board games, role-playing games, war games, etc.

King Con's Magic: The Gathering Event
sponsored by Valdosta Georgia's Black Sunshine Games
Black Sunshine Games will be hosting and running our first annual Magic: The Gathering Event. The normal entry fee will be $30, which will get you the 6 packs of Magic: The Gathering cards that will be needed to play in our sealed Magic Event. (Lands will be provided by BSG).
Through our Court Magician backer level, not only will you get a guaranteed spot at the gaming table, but also save $5 on your registration!
More information on this event can be found here on our website.
Board Gaming by MAGE and AMBOGS
Two of Georgia's finest board game groups are coming together to run King Con's board gaming tables. MAGE (Middle Georgia Gaming Enthusiasts) and AMBOGS (AMericus BOard Gaming Society) will be supplying a mind-blowing amount of board games for our convention goers to use, free of charge.
The groups are more than willing to show any players how to play any game in their collection and we encourage new players to join in the fun!
If you'd like to request a specific board game you can E-mail us: firstname.lastname@example.org
King Con's Settlers of Catan Tournament
hosted and ran by MAGE (Middle Georgia Gaming Enthusiasts)'s Michael Hines
MAGE founder, Michael Hines, has put together a Settlers of Catan tournament for King Con. The members of the tournament will get to play in a two game of Settlers of Catan tournament.
Spots for the tournament are very limited, so I suggest signing up through our Kickstarter so you can save your spot at the tournament. You can sign up by backing this Kickstarter at the "Royal Explorer" level.
King Con's Heroclix Tournament
hosted and ran by Kyle Yentzer of Heroes & Villains Comics
Local Heroclix expert, Kyle Yentzer, has agreed to host our first annual Heroclix tournament. The tournament will be a 300 point sealed tournament, which means that by entering the tournament your fee will pay for 2 new packs of Heroclix. These new figures will be the figures in which you will build your team, on the day of the event.
Notice that there are only 48 seats available for the tournament and once they're gone there will be no more submissions (even after the Kickstarter has ended). So, we recommend signing up through our Kickstarter now, in order to ensure a spot come game time!
King Con's HeroScape Tournament
hosted and ran by Larry and Kevin Long
Local HeroScape powerhouses, Larry and his son Kevin Long, have agreed to host the first annual King Con HeroScape Tournament. The Tournament will consist of four tables of HeroScape goodness which will allow us to have up to 16 HeroScape contestants competing in four 1 hour games.
This competition is a serious commitment and we ask that only players who own their own HeroScape army sign up for the contest and due to the limited spots we suggest you back our Kickstarter at our King's Champion level to ensure your spot at the table!
The very same balanced tournament maps that are going to be used at the GenCon Indy HeroScape will be used during our tournament as well.
More details to come!
King Con's Space Hulk Games
hosted and ran by Shawn Phippen
Local war game enthusiast, Shawn Phippen, has agreed to run and referee a total of 10 Space Hulk battles during the duration of the convention. Two tables will be set aside for the event which will allow 2 players to engage in the bloody battles between the Space Marines and the Genestealers.
Because of the limitations on the number of games owned and the number of tables available, only 20 players will be able to partake in this epic war game/board game hybrid. Signups are at a first come first served basis and our Kickstarter backers get first dibs! To sign up just select the "Field Marshal" backing level when pledging to King Con. Feel free to bring your friends along to help you play as well. The tentative times to choose from are: 9:00am, 10:30am, 1:00pm, 2:30pm, 4:00pm. The times are also first come, first served.

SCARAB Roleplaying Game Tables
Hosted by SCARAB Gaming
SCARAB gaming will be showing up to King Con with their horde of RPG books. They've agreed to run 20 games per day of convention.
Please check out our Facebook poll and vote to help us decide what games SCARAB should bring, here.
We will be posting signups to the RPG on our website once our Kickstarter is over.
King Con's 1st Annual Costume Contest
Who doesn't love to dress up? Love cosplay? Have a great idea for a costume that will show off your fandom? Here's your chance to let loose, flaunt a little and possibly win a wonderful prize at the same time!
King Con is hosting it's first annual Costume Contest. Contestants only need to pay a small $5 fee (which can be accomplished by picking the "Court Jester" backing level) to enter the contest. The rest of the convention goers will get one voting coupon. When a convention goer sees what they feel is the best costume they have only to hand that contestant their coupon. The contestant with the most coupons at the end of the convention will be crowned the winner. We'll have first, second, and third place prizes. We'll even have an honorable mention as well.
VIP: What does it mean to be a VIP?
Here are the benefits (so far) to being a VIP.
- Special VIP entrance, skip the long line to get into the convention!
- Front row seating at any panels or keynotes (If hopeful goals are met)
- One free pass to any paid tournament
- An invite to the King Con after party - location TBD
- A free T-shirt
- A pair of exclusive VIP 6-sided King Con dice
Passes for children 12 and under cost only: $5
Passes for children 4 and under are: FREE
You may purchase junior passes through our Kickstater by increasing your pledge level by an extra $5 per junior pass.
Hopeful Goal 1 - $1600 - MET!:
~Two days of gaming!~
If we can raise enough money we'll extend the convention one more day. This will allow more room for events and of course give us more time to game! If the goal is met we'll extend the convention to the 3rd of November as well as the 2nd of November.
Hopeful Goal 2 - $1800:
~Get Sean Patrick Fannon to King Con 2013~
Sean Patrick Fannon, founder of Evil Beagle Games, has agreed to keep his schedule clear the weekend of King Con. The reason he's decided to do this, is because if we can raise enough cash to pay for some his gas and his hotel room, he'll pack his soul mate, Carinn Seabolt, into his car and come spend the weekend with us!
Sean Patrick Fannon is a very well known game designer who holds an uncountable number of game design accomplishments under his belt. (I encourage you to read his impressive bio here).
During his stay with us, he's agreed to bring a number of games for you to peruse and possibly pick up, run games with us, demo his own games, and (with space permitting) speak at any keynotes or panels we might have.
But it gets better....
Sean Patrick Fannon is so excited over the chance to participate at King Con, that he's willing to give away a free PDF product to any backer, backing $25 or more! FREE!
The backer will get their choice of either a mini-adventure written by the creator for the Shaintar setting, exclusive to backers of this KS (and generally usable for anyone running a Savage Worlds fantasy game), or "Chosen of the Horn" status for their PC in the official Shaintar: Justice and Life shared campaign. The details of "Chosen of the Horn" can be found in the free Shaintar: Legends Arise Player's Guide.
Risks and challenges
The largest risk I foresee in regards to King Con 2013 is either A. Not being able to find an open venue for the event or B. losing the interest of our game runners.
First, there are a lot of different venues in the Middle Georgia area. Luckily, in order to enjoy the types of games we'll be playing all you need are tables, chairs, and people. This can be accomplished almost anywhere! We also have volunteers already on standby who are willing to call and price venues.
Second, in regards to losing a game runner. Since before this project has even gone live we've had an euphoric amount of community support. I have no doubt that between now and the time of the convention, we can find someone else who can pick up the torch on any event we're offering.
As it is described how I should be answering this question, it mentions that I should tell you how I'm qualified to handle any setbacks I might have on this project. But I have to come straight, I might not be that well qualified, honestly, but the great part is that I don't have to be. King Con has a very strong community backing and through this ever-growing bond we have started, anything can be accomplished!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
