About this project
Thanks everybody for embracing our message! ZenEgg project will continue its story on our webpage :)
For all of you who still haven't decided on your holiday gifts, we have designed a special ZenEgg gift-card that you can give to your loved ones or friends in their stockings or under a christmas tree. This year Santa is coming in March :) You can download it H E R E. Peaceful and relaxing holidays to you all!
REMINDER: Fitting into your home and office, ZenEgg is designed to sit comfortably on your desk, table or shelf. It reminds you to pause what you are doing and take a few minutes to reflect.
STRESS RELIEVER: Stress balls were created to relax the tensions in your hands and mind. ZenEgg works in much the same way, except it has been created out of warm, touchy materials.
MASSAGE OBJECT: Made from solid wood, the rounded shape of the egg allows you to apply pressure directly and easily to relieve body tension.
TOY: Nudge it, spin it, roll it.. No matter how you interact with it, the experience is always fun. Its playful character makes the ZenEgg a perfect gift no matter what age.
ERGONOMICS: My goal was to find the ideal shape to fit in my palm. The familiar and simplistic shape of an egg was the perfect answer. ZenEgg is designed to feel comfortable in your hands. With a weighted base, it always restores its balance.
NATURAL FEEL: ZenEgg is made out of carefully selected Walnut, Pear and Maple woods. Working with these materials gives each ZenEgg a unique pattern and an inherent natural aroma. The warmth of the solid wood, gives the egg the natural feel that your body responds to.
LOCALLY PRODUCED: ZenEggs are hand-crafted, following an age-old tradition of local woodcraft. Even though the shape itself is quite simple, the process behind it takes true craftsmanship to make it. Every ZenEgg is treated with organic oils to increase its durability. They are made with a high level of precision, tested and checked to ensure top level quality.
ZenEgg was created with an emphasis on tangible sensations. We are tactile creatures; it’s common for us to have something in our hands. I started to realise that every object that we hold is associated with some activity that we automatically start to do. It’s for this reason that I wanted to develop an object for taking time out.
Hidden from view, there is a meaning imbued in every egg. The Ouroboros, an icon that symbolises self-reflexivity, is burnt in on the inner surface of every wooden fitting.
Note: Wood is live material so textures, lines and colours may differ from one ZenEgg to another. Also, in time colour of the wood will darken. All of our ZenEggs are treated with natural oils to ensure the most natural feel and aroma. The Olive ZenEgg is oiled with a mixture of olive oil an lavender.
Average Dried Weight: 38 lbs/ft3 (610 kg/m3) (of walnut wood)
Appearance: Heartwood can range from a lighter pale brown to a dark chocolate brown with darker brown streaks. Colour can sometimes have a grey, purple, or reddish cast.
Grain/Texture: Grain is usually straight, but can be irregular. Has a medium texture and moderate natural luster.
Average Dried Weight: 43 lbs/ft3 (690 kg/m3) (of pear wood)
Appearance: Heartwood is light reddish brown. Sapwood is slightly paler but is not usually distinct from heartwood.
Grain/Texture: Grain is usually straight, with a very fine uniform texture.
Average Dried Weight: 44 lbs/ft3 (705 kg/m3) (of maple wood)
Appearance: Colour ranges from nearly white, to an off-white cream colour.
Grain/Texture: Grain is generally straight, but may be wavy. Has a fine, even texture.
Average dried Weight: 62 lbs/ft3 (990 kg/m3) (of olive wood)
Appearance: Heartwood is a cream or yellowish brown, with darker brown or black contrasting streaks. Color tends to deepen with age. Olive is sometimes figured with curly or wavy grain, burl, or wild grain.
Grain/Texture: Grain may be straight, interlocked, or wild. Fine uniform texture with moderate natural luster.
Average Dried Weight:50 lbs/ft3 (795 kg/m3) (of plum wood)
Color/Appearance: Plum heartwood can exhibit a cornucopia of colors, typically a yellowish brown, with streaks of pink, orange, red, purple, olive, or grey mixed in. Because of the small size of plum trees, swirled or irregular grain, as well as knots and other defects are common.
Grain/Texture: Has a fine texture with close grain and a slight natural luster.
Average Dried Weight:54 lbs/ft3 (870 kg/m3) (of wenge wood)
Color/Appearance: Heartwood is a very dark brown with black streaks. Upon application of a wood finish (particularly an oil-finish) the wood can become nearly black.
Grain/Texture: Grain is straight, with a very coarse texture. Low natural luster and large pores in no specific arrangement. Brown mineral deposits are occasionally present, growth rings are distinct.
All the ZenEggs are available as a single reward or as an add-on. A lot of you were asking about a bundle of two the ZenEggs, so we made it possible by adding the Add-on feature. You can also order a bundle of three.
How does it work? Add-ons can only be added to an existing reward (ZenEgg, Duo or Nest). To add an additional ZenEgg, select your chosen reward and write in the price sum of the previous selected ZenEgg plus the new one (you do this manually). Example: Walnut ZenEgg (18$) + Wenge ZenEgg add-on (30$) = total (48$). The add-on feature is available for all ZenEggs in our rewards system (Walnut, Maple or Pear add-on = 16$, Olive = 25$, Plum = 22$). For any additional questions just write us a message.
Although I designed the product and sourced the producers, the tooling and material costs are simply too much for me to afford on my own. The campaign goal is set at just enough to cover the costs of tools, labour, shipping and materials. After this costs are covered, I’ll be able to produce more ZenEggs in a more sustainable way.
Throughout this design process I’ve been fortunate enough to get help from some lovely people. They saw the message I was trying to make and they supported me.

Risks and challenges
With the design process finished and our producers chosen, we’re thankfully in a pretty safe position. It’s not a complicated project and all the shipping and people helping out really make this something I’m not worried about. The production of ZenEgg is in good hands, and I hope they’ll soon be in yours!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
