LOVE ANIMATION? SUPERHERO CHARACTERS AND CRACKING GOOD ADVENTURES.. THEN THIS SERIES IS FOR YOU!...
Who or what is Marti?
Marti is a creator-owned cartoon character series about a Superhero Meerkat and his friends. The concept began life after seeing the superb Meerkat Manor natural history series.
We now feel the world is ready for the outrageous exploits of Marti as he combats Evil in the form of villainy from amongst others an overweight Budgie called BIG MAVIS and her henchmen Ego and Stench. Marti is a fun , sometimes bumbling Hero who in the tradition of iconic Superhero characters sets out to right wrongs and protect those who are the closest to him.
# He can fly
(What’s the point of a superhero unless you have
a cape flapping in the wind!)
# He has super strength
(Very handy when you can’t find a tin opener!)
# Hypnotic stare RAY
(In his upright MEERKAT pose he can stare at
someone, unblinking and emit a power ray that
transfixes an opponent.)
# FINGER power beam
(A purple beam he emits from his finger that blasts holes into
anything... very handy for a burrowing creature.)
Marti is a clumsy, funny character with a midlands/north of England accent.
He befriends a human family whom he lives with in the show.
He has power mad enemies all of whom are of reptile/mammal/insect origin; Lizards, Scorpions, Snakes, Frogs, Sloths and
even a homicidal overweight Budgie!
His mission is to be on the look out for mankind/animal kind and save the world from evil doers and eat lots of Low Fat Yoghurt!.
I'm Paul, co-creator of the series. Bob Baker and I created the K9 TV series and even though the series has successfully been shown for nearly five years in Australia, Canada and Many European territories we have been sitting out a protracted production deal before bringing K9 back as “K9 Adventures” with a total reboot making the series we always envisioned.
It was our experience with that series that has made us think long and hard about getting involved with other investors. With Marti we decided to come to Kickstarter to test the waters and see what sort of interest we could generate with you the great viewing public and also use whatever we can produce from this campaign to develop and promote the concept in the form of firstly a pilot episode or if we go beyond our goal we will develop a full length series or Movie project.
This is our project.
The goal is to produce a animated CGI pilot episode of MARTI alongside a story book by November 2014...
This will be a truly independent venture,to deliver a product straight into your hands, direct from the creators.
The voice cast will feature some named actors.. perhaps more familiar from CULT TV SCI FI (hush hush)!!!!!!
The DVD will contain a Pilot episode of MARTI, fully CGI animated. A behind the scenes “Making of” will also be an exclusive feature which will also include a look at our plans for K9 too.
The book will be crammed full with a chaotic mix of comic strips, character factfile pages, illustrated text stories, and much more.
These two items alone make any investment in the project worthwhile and would be a exclusive great value Xmas present also!
What is a Kickstarter?
For thirty days, you'll be able to make pledges to help make this project happen, ranging from £1 up to £5,000.
But we're not just asking you to "donate" your hard-earned cash because we think that we are a worthy cause, oh no, we're offering top value-for-money rewards in return for every pledge made.
For your pledge, you can select one of the reward packages—listed to the right—of equal or lesser value to your pledge. You can always pledge more than the minimum required to get a reward if you're feeling generous. Your credit card or other account will not actually be charged at the time you make your pledge. and you can change your mind right up to the final deadline.
If the end of the Kickstarter comes and we've reached our goal, then you all get charged the amount you pledged, and we will get on with writing, animating, drawing, printing, posting, shouting, making copious amounts of coffee etc. But if we don't meet our goal, then the whole thing is called off. No one gets charged, no fees are applied, everyone keeps their money, and we all go home with no DVD or book.
What do I get?
Take a look on the right hand side of this page and you'll see a list of different pledge amounts. Under each amount is a description of the rewards you'll get for that level.
Most of the levels include either the DVD itself or a copy of the book or both. These will be shipped when we have finished the animation project by November 2014 or earlier and printed the books. We will be using a UK printer, which, while a little more expensive, cuts out the shipping delay that we would get if we printed overseas.
As a BIG BONUS to our Doctor Who/K9 Fans we are offering an exclusive bonus DVD that will be given free alongside pledges of £15 and upwards!
Never seen before the complete story of K9 with exclusive footage and will not be available elsewhere!
Domestic shipping within the UK is included in the price of all reward levels. Some of the shipping costs outside the UK will be absorbed by the pledge level price, but a bit extra is usually required to cover the full expense (worldwide shipping costs are stated at the bottom of each level description).
Over-funding and stretch goals
If we're lucky enough to reach our goal and go past it, we've got a lot of plans that we can bring into action. Firstly adding more pages to the book version of Marti and then adding a longer version of the animated adventure. If we exceed that goal, we will hand out some great surprise bonus gifts. If we make more than that, we will look into putting funds towards the production of either a full series of animated adventures or a full length CGI Movie version!! We will also be attending the Character Licence fair in London later this year promoting the character.
What will we spend the money on?
Our goal is a big ask, but every penny is accounted for - paying for animators, artwork, script, printing the books and DVD duplication, shipping the goods to you, manufacturing the rewards, handling, packaging, postage, and paying a percentage to Kickstarter and the taxman.
This is a great chance to be amongst the first to own a piece of MARTI merchandise and be at the beginning of a new Cartoon favourite appealing to young and more mature audiences alike!
Risks and challenges
Meeting writing deadlines, facilitating others to meet their animation and artwork deadlines, and fitting in with the production deadline. Designing and organising manufacture of rewards. Logistics of collating, packing and shipping individual rewards...
I am used to doing all of this stuff as an independent creator who has been producing and shipping out merchandise for some years now.
My experience in the Television and publishing industry has given me useful knowledge of the potential pitfalls and how to avoid them. I have built failsafe timings into the deadlines.
I have formed a limited company with BOB. We have spent the past several months planning and refining this project.
