About

What's it about?

Big Bad Overlord is a competitive tabletop card and dice game where you use luck and attitude to take over the world. Players assume the roles of evil Dukes, and take turns drawing cards to build armies of evil minions; battles are fought with mind control, magic, and melee assaults, while fending off occasional do-gooders.

What's inside?

The game comes with 74 evil Minion cards, featuring 29 different designs and troop types, to add to your armies; 10 unique Do-Gooder cards, featuring misguided foes in need of squashing; 6 unique Citadel playmats, each with a portrait of a different Duke on the reverse; 2 Magic Artifact cards; 6 six-sided dice (white, red, and black); 8 Mind tokens, to mark cards captured by Mind Control; and a 16-page instruction manual.

Is it any good?

These guys think so.

Shipping. What's the deal with shipping?

Within the US, shipping is free (except for bulk orders from verified game stores). For shipping to locations abroad, we'll be partnering with fulfillment locations in the UK and Canada, to keep shipping costs reasonable and avoid customs fees.

Stretch goals, bub. Whatcha got?

If we reach $20,000, we'll include a copy of the Book of Mo Darkness with every game - an illustrated guide with origin stories, background information, and more for every Duke, Artifact, Minion, and Do-Gooder. PLUS extra material, including at least six new stories for the Kickstarter exclusive reward cards! At least 50 pages of original, unique, utterly pointless material!

What's your long, boring origin story?

Big Bad Overlord was one of several game prototypes I developed in college. Back then "game designer" was high on my list of potential careers. Overlord was by far the most successful of my designs. We play tested the other games; we played Overlord. For three years the game was a go-to game for my friends and me when hanging out in someone's dorm room not doing our homework. But back then Kickstarter wasn't a thing. Heck, the Web wasn't a thing. As graduation loomed I decided to pursue a career path with "income potential" and set aside the games.

Fast forward a few years. In 2016 I found a box in the basement containing the game (which had somehow survived moves across 5 states and 2 foreign countries). I realized that I had the tools to create new versions of the cards right on my desktop, and Kickstarter to make it a reality. I updated the cards and rules, gathered a new group of play testers, and ran Big Bad Overlord through its paces. It's ready for the big time.

Risks and challenges

The biggest challenge for me would be if demand exceeds expectations. I'm a one-man operation. But I want to make sure I can get the game out the door as quickly as possible and into your hands. This is why right now the reward tiers are relatively simple. It's also why I'm using experienced, professional fulfillment companies to make sure orders are processed efficiently and properly (ShipBob in the US and GamesQuest in the EU).

Basically it's simple: support Big Bad Overlord, and I'll send you the game.
