Big Bad Overlord is a competitive tabletop card and dice game where you use luck and attitude to take over the world. Players assume the roles of evil Dukes, each trying to destroy their rivals in order to become the new Overlord.
It's a combat game with card drafting, bluffing, player elimination, and lots of bad puns. Players build their armies, form alliances, betray one another, and fend off the forces of good in the quest to become the greatest villain of them all.
You'll get 74 evil Minion cards, featuring 29 different designs and troop types, to add to your armies; 10 unique Do-Gooder cards, featuring misguided foes in need of squashing; 6 unique Citadel playmats, each with a portrait of a different Duke on the reverse; 2 Magic Artifact cards; 6 six-sided dice (white, red, and black); 12 Mind tokens, to mark cards captured by Mind Control; and a 16-page instruction manual.
These guys think so.
Glad you asked.
(Or if you want the quick non-multimedia overview:)
Backers will be charged actual shipping costs, rounded down a bit, to the US, Canada, Australia, and EU.
We have a few goodies at different levels. If you want to support us a little, but don't want to spring for the game, we are offering these very cool 1" enamel pins when you pledge at the $9 level.
At the $50 level, you will also receive six Kickstarter exclusive cards: the Ducal Legions. These are like the Legion of Doom cards, but with an added Magic attack, and each Duke has their own special Legion with a unique banner. If you have these cards, each Duke gets to start the game with their own Legion, giving every player at least one powerful card in their initial hand.
At the $100 level, you'll receive all the above, plus something special: the Book of Mo Darkness. This is a 46 page, softcover, illustrated guide with complete backstories on every single minion, monster, artifact, and Duke - even the big guy himself, the Overlord. Learn which minion got its powers through an accident involving a can of cheese sauce! Learn which monsters were created as part of a breakfast cereal campaign! Learn what happened to the mysterious lost Iron Crown of Souls!
Finally, for the truly brave and/or villainous, we have something remarkable. If you pledge $250, you will receive all the rewards from the other tiers, PLUS your choice of one of the five unique Evil Duke masks used in all of our promotional and instructional videos! You can own a piece of board gaming history! The masks are handmade from foam board, cardstock, and hot glue. They each feature a 1" wide elastic band on the back and are surprisingly sturdy. You can adorn your study or gaming room with one of these bloodthirsty visages for years to come! (You can wear it to scare the neighbors too, but be advised that the masks don't have eyeholes.)
Mask choice is first come first serve and there are only five. It's the ultimate Big Bad Overlord accessory, and it can be yours!
It's happened: we've hit our funding goal of $9500 with time to spare! So we're adding a stretch goal: at $10,500 we'll be including an extra set of six cards with an optional game mechanic: the Petty Vengeance Ghost Expansion Set. This set provides a two-sided card for each Duke who is eliminated from the game. The Ghost Dukes can then continue to offer their favor, or curses, to other players still in the game, in the form of a bonus or penalty to their die rolls. (A proposed sample of one of these cards is below.) We've got just over a week to make this goal - let's see if we can do it!
Yeah, right. Like you want to read that. If you are really interested you can visit the Big Bad Overlord website for information on how the game came to be. Short story: I'm one man with a silly, evil dream.
Risks and challenges
Big Bad Ideas LLC is a one-man company. I am working to keep the funding goals realistic and the scope of this project to manageable proportions. The game is solid, though. It's been extensively playtested and enjoyed for years, and the manufacturers have already produced solid prototypes of the game and the Book of Mo Darkness. If you support Big Bad Overlord, I'll get you a copy of the game.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
