At last! As of RIGHT NOW on Steam or here, everyone can finally get an early access to the Mercenary Kings and join the fight against the forces of CLAW on Mandragora Island!

ALL backers should have received their Steam key by now (they were sent on Friday). If that's not the case, please email us at with your full backer name and email address.

The game is available as of right NOW on Steam, for PC! Once completed, the game will be released for more platforms.

Early Access? What is this??
It’s an earlier, not completed version of the game. It currently has 60 missions whereas the completed version of the game will have over 100! This version of the game still needs your feedback to get it in the best possible shape and it’s why we are releasing it now.

It’s not complete??
It is not! The early access is still packed full of stuff, it even has the online multiplayer component, but it is not a completed version of the game, which is still in progress.

What’s missing?
We’re thrilled with the current version of the game, but we still need to balance different values (items, different enemy difficulties, weapons) on top of adding the remaining missions, cutscenes and various sound effects.

Do I still get the full version of the game?
Yes! The full version of the game will automatically download when it’s released!

When is the completed version coming out?
Sometime around Fall!

      Whoop! You guys came through AT THE BEST POSSIBLE TIME! I've been dying for a new game to play, yet I'm so broke right now I couldn't even pick up something during the Steam Summer Sale. I love you guys! :D

      And even though I threw money at this thing already, and will enjoy playing this on PC for the time being, I'm really looking forward to the inevitable PS4 version. Much prefer console gaming in general, and frankly, stuff like this belongs there (so sayeth the Metal Slug and Contra series', as well as many other shooters of that ilk).

      I've been playing this for a few days, and I absolutely love the sleek, smooth gameplay and controls...considering it's still not finalised, the game definitely feels right, for the most part.

      I'm also relieved that, unlike some other developers, you didn't turn around and say "oooh we've got too much money, we're behind schedule now because we over scoped the scale of our game"

      Love the graphics, love the animation, love the essence of Metroidvania that runs throughout the level design, and love the music.

      Sooo, I hope the "horrible console port" state of the controls will be fixed soon. I know this is early access and all, but this is like a Castle Crashers-level of clearly-made-for-a-console controls. Are you guys really going to leave out DirectInput support and leave us wandering through the forest of x360ce? For the love of God, tell me keyboard remapping is coming at least, and hopefully a less horrible default layout. This is unplayable on the keyboard.

      I had hoped this would be foremost a PC game, like it was pitched. Did the PS4 nod move you to consider that as your primary platform?

      I think the MK forum… is the best place to leave feedback, since the team have been quite responsive to us there. I'd imagine the Steam discussion will get some notice too...just not as much as the MK forum.

      @ddbelyea - $15 backers should have gotten a Steam key as well. As a $30 backer, I got two of them.

      Game is really fun so far, though certain things do need more polish. What's the best place to leave feedback, the official forums? There's some decent discussion in the Steam forums too, though your usual trolls as well. Just wondering if that's also being monitored for feedback at all.

      I have to say the game is fantastic. There are a few issues, but as a whole, it's great. Just wanted to point out a few things if only to help.

      There is a very simple way to duplicate C4, I don't think this is intentional or not, so I had to bring it up.
      Don't know if it was just me or not, but the first mission with the Steel Soldier had him spawn irregularly. Like I would hop into the designated area for the battle, yet nothing would happen. Also it seemed like the boss area barriers that come up don't serve any purpose, as I could just walk out of them.
      My RP was stuck at nine for a really long time, it only changed once I unlocked missions in the next rank. Unsure if intentional or not.
      Long time between completing mission, and mission cleared logo showing up.

      Great work with the game guys, and I hope you aren't bogged down with complaints over bugs/glitches. Good luck in the long haul, and here's to making the game even bettter! =D

      What is the proper channel for Early Access feedback? In the meantime:
      0. I love it. Great work, keep at it.
      1. The player must be able to pause the game. The kind of pause where you can answer the phone and talk to your aunt for an hour. If for some reason you needed to.
      2. V-Sync. Sprite flicker and slowdown I can live with but the screen tearing is terrible.
      3. Gun mods effects aren't clear enough. I can build a magazine that displays no info on attack power, accept the auto equip, enter a level and have no idea why stuff won't die anymore. Please display attack power etc. variance better
      4. The first mission needs more directions. Such as reminding people how to perform a roll when needed to progress. Arrows pointing the way would also be nice in the first one.
      5. Outfit colors (for Empress at least) don't make much sense - once you have a vest on, the green outfit has no green showing! I love the purple outfit, but it shouldn't be called green.
      6. The vest only appears in some frames. Also, it looks pretty bad compared to the amazing sprites.

      Two things come to mind, though:
      Why doesn't the 'pause' menu actually stop the timer? Also, have you considered making the backpack bigger for grenades & C4?

      When I was on my lunch break I decided to check my email to find that I have my Mercenary Kings keys! What a nice surprise! The rest of my shift seemed to take forever but as I am typing this Mercenary Kings is downloading! :D
