Hello Kickstarters, thanks for showing interest in our project!
I'll start by sharing a bit of our history:
Last summer, I personally paid for and printed 5,000 copies of the first issue of Transmission and distributed it for free around New York City. (An online version can be viewed HERE.) It featured stories from my hitchhiking adventures, photos of my close friends, and pieces from my favorite artists. It depicted a particular transition in my life… leaving what I knew and exploring somewhere new.
The creation of Transmission has been a very personal experience for me. It's served as a way for me to explore myself and the things that have meant the most in my life… but it's not just about me. I hope that in being open, honest and familiar, I can capture the interest of others and encourage them to be more open and honest themselves.
The upcoming issue's theme is "transparency." It picks up where the first left off and is over twice as long.
It features a piece I've written about falling in love for the first time and how I temporarily lost my mind because of it. In it, I struggle with personal experiences of loneliness, depression and anxiety, and I hope that in sharing these experiences, I'll be able to help others feel less alone. (The intro to the story can be read HERE.)
I've also included intimate portraits of my close friends and muses. The idea is to make them feel familiar to you all. I want you to be able to look into their eyes and feel that you know them… I want you to feel a part of something, rather than as if you're staring at some far-off, unattainable world.
I'll also be showcasing several contributions from artists from around the world, including a massive photo spread by my friend, Paul Maffi. Paul and I decided to work from opposite ends of the magazine, interpreting transparency in our own ways, to finally meet in the middle.
The upcoming issue will be kept completely ad-free, because it's so personal that I feel like including them would be like placing advertising in my diary.
Instead, I'm asking for your support in helping with printing and distribution. If you could donate anything, it would be greatly appreciated. Even a dollar will bring us closer to our goal.
Over the past year we've been working on Transmission with no expectation of getting paid. It's been a labor of love and now we'd like to share it with you.
Again, thank you very much.
