In this day and age of indie/DIY bands, artists, labels and distributors, it's tough to go beyond your local music scene.
Like dominoes, we've set up and knocked down everything needed for a successful release:
Record album = check. Build & solidify relationship with indie label = check. Set-up national street date with distributor = check. Plan local release shows/party to coincide with street date = check. Band photos taken, interviews with local/regional media, order corresponding merchandise = check, check & check. Book summer US tour to support album release = CHECK! What's else can you do, you ask? Hire a publicist.
HERE'S WHAT A PUBLICIST CAN DO: - Send out our CD's to music blogs, newspapers, indie publications, etc. nationwide. - Issue several email press campaigns to hundreds/thousands of media contacts alerting them of the impending album and tour. - Follow up with these contacts encouraging them to listen, blog, review or write about the band. - Service our first 'hype track' or single "Calm" to college radio stations nationwide - Contact local media outlets in each town we're visiting on tour. - plus many, many other things that we just don't have the capability, know-how or networking experience to handle.
So, what's the big deal? Sometimes it takes that extra hand and set of eyes/ears to get people to take a listen that normally wouldn't give a small southern band a shot.
Sometimes it helps to hire outside of the in-house/label PR capabilities, so, with the help and blessing of of our label we've pulled the trigger and hired a kick-butt publicist based out the Big Apple who has been (and will continue to) bust his ass getting our name out there. The problem? It's money that we just don't have right now.
So, here's we're you come in. We're asking, pleading, begging, or back to simply asking (nicely, we'll add) to help us take this next step. Whether or not it pays off in the end, whether or not it gets us press responses we're hoping for, we'll never know without trying.
And that's what we want to do... TRY!
