In 1991, 14 year old Chris Bradley was gay, lonely and decided he wanted a friend, a pen pal. So, at the height of her media heyday, Chris chose convicted felon Pame Smart. Pame Smart was a 23 year old high school counselor convicted and found guilty for having her teenage lover murder her husband. Over the course of 4 years, Chris and Pame wrote almost 50 letters back and forth to each other. This is their story.
This material is so rich, thrilling and esoterically funny we had to share it with the world. As a film maker I am always looking for the unique and interesting. After listening to Chris read the touching and often hilarious letters during an event, it made me realize we had to bring this material to the world. We hope you can see our vision and that we will inspire you to entrust us to film, edit and present this unique and touching friendship. Never before has there been a story like this.
We plan to shoot Pame at Seacoast Repertory Theatre with a live audience. Bringing the deep and true relationship of these two misfits to the world alive onstage. You grow to understand and fall in love with not only Chris, but Pame as well. You'll be surprised to see how one supports the other, and so it goes...
Knate Higgins is our fearless director, and longtime friend of Chris. Both have worked together on a number collaborations, theatre, and projects . Knate's particular focus for this performance based narrative film will be to convey the true meaning of friendship, regardless of the circumstance. Behind the paper, pen and the bars was a mutual yearning for acceptance, freedom and the latest episode of "90210"
Personally I have been making movies for 40 years and as producer I can promise this film is a winner, a bold, stand out gay centric smash! Help us bring the intimate and often hilarious letters to the world.
Risks and challenges
The risks are that we fail to compile and edit the material into a coherent narrative that holds and delights and entertains the audience. So unless we do excellent pre production work ...that is compile the letters and arrange and proof the annecdotal material the our Star Chris Bradley has we run the risk of making something that doesn't work. Having gone over the material and arrange the letters and seen Chris already perform them. I am confident we can have our professional crew and two maybe three camera's collect enough footage that when we are in post production we will have more than enough to make a 90 min.movie. Barring something unforseen happening to Chris personally (He is our star) we should be in great shape for shooting. The biggest risk is that something happens to our star between now and our shoot in April. Gawd forbid. We have April 7&8 2014 as a shoot date it isn't a long shoot as we don't need more that two days the performance will be rought 70 minutes with 20 minutes of the very best interstitial material (Chris) sharing how Pame and the letters fulfilled a huge void and helped him through his teens. I suppose I didn't understand that we need to present to the donors a sense of what the worst case scenario would be. I mean if we did not get to shoot the film we would refund all of the funds. Isn't that the right thing to do? Finally we expect the film to be edited and ready for film festivals by June/July. We are very excited to bring this material to life and think we are doing a good thing for all young and yopung at heart boy or girl who are lonely, who may be gay and who are looking for love. Chris's story and his relationship with Pame is unique, one we think the world should experience and very very funny. A unique friendship we are excited to present to the world. We have lined up crew, every possible production services needed already. We are set to go. We have secured our location, crew availability, LLC's, Legal team, etc... I have a list of people wanting to donate their time and services and interns. Let me know if I need to add more. Thank you.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
