About

Tablets are great until the unexpected happens and whats with buying a protective case only to have to put it in another case to carry it with your power adapter and accessories..

Tablets are designed to be lightweight and portable however, they still require both hands to operate and the risk of damage increases dramatically when using them on the go or while performing additional activities.

Enjoy a new sense of freedom in a tablet case that offers more. iTray’s patent pending three strap design easily lowers and locks for hands free viewing and typing while sitting, standing or walking.

The iTray’s large accessory pocket expands 3x its size to store the Power Adapter, Strap System, Ear Buds or even your Cell Phone. Magnetic closures on the pocket flap provide simple and secure storage for all your accessories.

Given all the new hands free experiences you’ll discover with the iTray, I couldn't overlook the need for a desktop stand. The iTray easily converts  to a versatile desktop stand with a 360° rotatable screen, handy business card slots  and a detachable inner case.

The essential case for your tablet, the iTray features magnetic closures with auto sleep and wake functionality and convenient access to your tablet’s camera and controls. It is constructed with durable leather material, detailed stitching, and gun-metal clasps.

Free Designer Cord Strap

I couldn't decide between two different strap designs so I included both a flat nylon and designer cord strap for backing this campaign.

No Risk: Delivered Before Christmas

I committed to ordering 1000 iTray’s specifically designed for the iPad Air and Air 2. This removes any risk and guarantees delivery to the first backers of this campaign before Christmas. The iTray will be warehoused in Chicago and Toronto so I can offer fast shipping in the United States and Canada.

Whether you are a business professional, student or just someone looking for a better tablet experience, the iTray provides the utmost in convenience, durability and style.

Your feedback and honest review is critical in my effort to understand the design benefits, drawbacks and recommendations for future tablet cases using my patent pending 3 strap design. If you’ll back my campaign to receive an iTray for the iPad Air or Air 2 I will commit to releasing the iTray for other tablet models.

Ryan White - Creator

The iTray may not be the “Coolest” product or most technically advanced, I sure wish it could “Hover, so you don’t get Board”. But its been a dream of mine to bring a unique product to market. Creating the iTray has been challenging but has improved how I interact with my Tablet personally and professionally. It’s my hope you choose to experience the iTray for yourself.

I Want To Thank:

My good friend Simon Fallows for believing in me and funding this idea to get me this far. Chris Lasso for his creativity and talent in pulling together the marketing and media to successfully launch this campaign. Jill Clark, you're a brilliant communicator, here’s to sharing iTray with the world.

I underestimated the time it would take to design, prototype, patent and manufacture what at first glance looks to be a simple product. Here’s a timeline of some of the steps that I took:

Timeline:

  • June 2013 - walking my dog with my tablet, wishing my hands were free
  • July 2013 - began assembling the 1st cardboard case with dog leash for straps, two straps didn't work, the three strap concept was born
  • September 2013 - purchased multiple cases and destroyed them in the process of trialing different strap combinations until satisfied the concept was sound. Started the Patent filing process.
  • October - February 2014 - computer modelled the design and received countless samples that were crap. Broken clasps, frawed stitching, magnets that wouldn’t hold and cases that didn’t fit.
  • April 2014 - found the right supplier after 5 attempts and negotiated pricing and terms. The estimated delivery was quoted at 14-16 weeks. Considered the Launch of a Kickstarter campaign.
  • September 2014 - Estimated delivery was slightly off taking 23 weeks to receive and inspect for quality. Spent 300+ hours creating this campaign
  • November 2014 - Launched the iTray on Kickstarter.com, I’m so very excited, this is a big risk, I won’t be able to sleep for 30 days.

Risks and challenges

I believe I needed to take the first step and with help risk some time and money because the last thing I wanted to do is let anyone down by not making the iTray available for Christmas. I choose to produce the iTray for the iPad Air with a minimum pre-production order of 1000 units. Warehousing and logistics will be handled out of Chicago and Toronto to enable a minimum shipping expenses and quick delivery can be assured prior to Christmas for the 1st 920 units sold.

Manufacturing additional quantities or developing different models will take much less time now that the tooling and process has be completed. I’m prepared to Air Freight inventory for deliveries into 2015.
