The CrowdLaunch Continues
A successful crowd funding campaign over the summer has enabled us to start the pre-production process of the Centipede Sawhorse. However, the initial units will come in a stamped brown box and can only be used to fulfill rewards. We will not be ready for prime time in stores until we are able to invest in the development of full production tooling, compelling retail packaging and achieve the economies of scale needed to offer wholesale pricing to retailers.
Now that the product is a reality, it is time to move ahead with the next phases of our launch strategy. By ordering your Centipede Sawhorse Kit during this Kickstarter campaign, you'll enjoy the earliest possible delivery date while helping us to make our product production ready.
We're not alone in anticipating this launch

PRIMARY GOAL - $4,980 - Sell from first pre-production run
To meet order minimums and fill a shipping container, the opening pre-production order placed at the factory was for more units than we've received requests for so far. The earliest backers of this Kickstarter campaign will be the last of those who will take delivery of their Centipede Sawhorse in February.
STRETCH GOAL - Sponsorship of Habitat for Humanity's 2014 Home Builder's Blitz
We've decided that it is important for us to build a legacy of supporting our communities from the very beginning. After discussing this with the backers of our initial crowdfunding campaign, we held a vote that indicated a preference for focusing our efforts on supporting Habitat for Humanity. We then announced that for every 100 Centipede PRO Sawhorses ever manufactured, we will donate 1 Centipede PRO Sawhorse Kit to a local Habitat for Humanity affiliate.
Then, we contacted their Gifts in Kind department to discuss our options to make it official. In a conversation with Heather, a Program Development Officer at Habitat for Humanity, mentioned the National Home Builders Blitz coming up in June of 2014. This amazing event aims to help construct more than 300 new houses, and rehab or make substantial repairs to existing homes across the country. We immediately knew we wanted to be a part of this, but a small company such as ours couldn't possibly afford to sponsor such an event. So, we've decided to change things up a bit for this campaign.
In addition to donating the usual 1 for 100, we will donate 1 Centipede PRO Sawhorse Kit for every 5 sold through this campaign (or 1 Centipede PRO Sawhorse Kit for every 10 of the smaller Centipede Sawhorse Kits).
It would be awesome to raise enough funds to be an "Iron" level sponsor of this event! Even if we don't get there, we'll still be helping out by donating what we do raise and will know that we played our part.
About the Centipede Sawhorse
A revolution in sawhorse evolution, the Centipede Sawhorse is the ultimate work support system - a heavy duty portable table base that sets up in 3 seconds with no assembly and folds down into a compact, lightweight unit for easy transport and convenient storage.
Featuring a unique patented steel frame design, the Centipede has many points of contact that can support an incredible amount of weight while keeping even the thinnest sheet material from sagging. Each point of contact is constructed of nested steel tubing that rests directly between the load and the ground for maximum support. Flat steel cross beams are flexible enough to absorb impact yet sturdy enough to keep each point of contact moving in tandem.
Atop each point is a durable molded polymer P-Top that prevents damage to the load, saw blades or the Centipede. In the event of a misguided cut, the replaceable P-Top will prevent the cutting blade from hitting the steel frame of the Centipede. Each P-Top spins 360 degrees to provide maximum positioning flexibility for the included or other accessories. Each kit includes Bench Clamps designed to keep materials in place and X-Cups that conveniently accommodate standard 2 x 4 boards for quick cuts.

Specifications and model comparison
At this time, we are unable to provide a specific weight capacity of either unit. We know from experience that the prototype version of the small unit holds well over 500 pounds without the slightest hint of stress, but we won't make actual capacity claims until we've had it UL tested.

First Production Parts
The factory shot 50 PCS of the Polymer Foot and P-Top Base out of the production injection molds. We have some adjustments to make, but the Centipede Sawhorse is becoming a reality!
Current production status
The unit shown in the video and all photos are of our handmade prototype unit. Though it is representative of the final units, there have been some minor changes to the design. Here are some snapshots of the final design files we've provided to the factory.
If you look at a close up of our plastic parts, you can see the lines created from the 3d printer we used to "grow" them. The pre-production version will be a durable molded polymer.

Risks and challenges
At this point, our challenges are ensuring on time delivery and getting retail placement for our product line. We have already signed our agreement with the factory and the pre-production tooling is being built. It is only a matter of quality control and timing to deliver on orders placed through this Kickstarter campaign.
The funds we receive during this campaign will be used to:
1.) Develop full production tooling
2.) Develop retail packaging and a compelling point of sale display.
2.) Cover distribution costs for all pre-orders as well as setting up a long term distribution solution.
3.) Afford sales, travel and promotional expenses
As you can see, each of these strategic goals have no impact on the current pre-production run. Our success in these endeavors do not stand in the way of delivering the Centipede Sawhorses that are ordered through this crowdfunding campaign.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
