Jade Chocolates specializes in creating chocolates and confections by blending teas and spices from Asia and the Pacific Islands. We will be opening up a retail location in San Francisco's Richmond District on Geary Boulevard at the corner of 6th avenue. Our anticipated opening date is set for early December 2014.
Why we need your support
We have been in the business for almost 8 years and now is the time to have our own shop. Your support will help us with the build out costs for our first retail shop. Having the shop means that we will be able to expand our offerings to include a line of hot chocolates, pastries and baked goods also with Asian and Pacific Island influences. The new shop allows our customers to find our entire line of chocolates in one space and the shop will help us grow and reach a wider audience.
Our signature line of chocolate bars have certainly created a buzz in the chocolate community. We have gained international acclaim with a double gold win for the Genmai Bar (roasted brown rice mixed with jasmine tea). We also became a finalist in the Good Food Awards for our Dragon's Breath bar (smokey lapsang souchang tea, roasted sesame, and red chili). The Terracotta Bar (tamari soy sauce almonds and sea salt) won in the Best New Product category at the San Francisco Chocolate Salon. We've been named on Bon Appetit Magazine's list of Forgotten Chocolatiers and have been written up by SFWeekly, USAToday, and various blogs and publications.
Jade Chocolates was conceived by Mindy Fong, a 5th generation San Franciscan with a degree from UCDavis in Enviromental Design. As a self taught chocolatier, Mindy has translated her architectural design background and knowledge of the color spectrum into her award winning flavor profiles. Read more about our humble beginning on our website and in an interview with Untempleter.com.
Mindy's entrepreneurial drive came from her grandfather, who owned several businesses in San Francisco. Despite having to learn English and paying the debt he owed to come to this country as a paper son, he was a highly successful businessman. Creating Jade Chocolates is a testament to her cultural heritage and early family struggles. It is a sweet way to bring familiar flavors from her childhood to the masses.
We invite you to look through our website for more photos and information about us. Hope to see you at the shop soon!
Risks and challenges
We have raised funds prior to kickstarter but just was with most construction efforts, our initial budget is just simply not enough. Raising funds through this crowdfunding campaign will help with the added costs associated with the build out.
We may be delayed in sending out rewards by one to two months if we do not open the shop in time for the Holidays. Also, our extended line of pastries and hot chocolates may not be served for the first few months of operation.
