What is it?
The Trouble With Dead Boyfriends is a musical Horror-Comedy aimed at deconstructing Young Adult Fantasy Novels, served with a drizzle of bloody feminism. It's being performed on June 24th in Chicago as part of Premier Premieres.
Stella, Grace, and Madison are BFFs about to undergo that most sacred of coming of age rituals ... Senior Prom. They've been planning this night longer then they've had the boobs to hold their gowns up, so it had better be perfect. The most essential element for a perfect prom? The perfect date, of course! He's got to be freakishly ripped and hot ... but so sensitive he'll cry openly. He's gotta be whip smart and willing to speak up and show it ... but humble enough to shut up and listen to your opinions. His arms have to be the safest place on earth ... but with enough of a hint of danger that he's not boring. You know, realistic expectations. Luckily, the girls have secured such perfect dates! The only trouble is ... they happen to be dead.
Why do we need money?
We got accepted to Premier Premieres! A Weekend of New Musical Comedies! We are so excited to go and present the musical to the public, but there are two hangups:
1. It's in Chicago, and we are in Pittsburgh.
2. We are poor college students.
We believe that this musical is one-of-a-kind. It's horror, it's camp, it's comedy, and it's touching. We really want to bring it to Chicago, but to get there, we need your help.
We need money for:
- Props! Sets! Costumes!
- A place to stay in Chicago that will house everyone involved in the production.
- Gas money to get to Chicago.
- Rehearsal space.
- Maybe even food ... (we are starving artists).
Even $1 helps! Thank you for your contribution.
Risks and challenges
This is a big effort with lots of moving parts. There are eight people in the cast, four band members, and the production team. Luckily, everyone involved in this process has been involved in theater for at least a few years. This isn't the first time we've put up a production.
It is, however, the first time we will be taking a production on the road. Therefore, we have created detailed budgets and timelines to prepare ourselves for this process. We've set our funding goals to be as realistic and minimalistic as possible in our design for the production. By keeping it simple, we will be able to control the many moving parts and ensure a clean show that can easily be transported to our (hopefully) many future opportunities.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
