About this project
What is UrbanBite?
UrbanBite works by connecting home cooks to hungry urbanites. Our service gives certified home cooks an online marketplace to submit dishes. Anyone can purchase these meals and pick it up on their way home or to work. UrbanBite cooks make a profit and buyers can experience homemade food.
UrbanBite is for Home Cooks
UrbanBite allows you to both conveniently order homecooked meals and make some extra cash as chef. In order to keep the UrbanBite meals safe and healthy, anyone who wants to become an UrbanBite chef must first go through a certification process. This process varies by state, but includes a kitchen inspection and an opportunity for you to get some meals professionally photographed. Once certified, you can prepare meals on your own time and sell them in our marketplace. The money you make from being an UrbanBite chef could help pay for your grocery bill every month with minimal extra effort.
About the UrbanBite Team
The UrbanBite Team is made up of five students at Carnegie Mellon with backgrounds in design, psychology, computer science, and human-computer interaction.
The Current Product
Why We Need Your Kickstarter Funding
Your funding will cover the initial development costs of UrbanBite. In order to launch our service, we intend to sponsor cooking competitions. Your funding will go towards sponsoring the first event in San Francisco. The money from our Kickstarter will also be used to recruit and certify our first chefs.
1. Meal voucher + sticker
2. Invitation to first tasting competition
3. Cookbook based on the San Francisco competition
4. Judge for our first tasting competition + private dinner with three friends and our crew
5. Cooking lessons from our famous chef
Risks and challenges
Like many of the current sharing economy companies, UrbanBite could experience difficulties regarding regulation. Selling food at this scale from individuals homes is entirely new. We have found that although UrbanBite can operate in almost every state, many state have laws that dictate the types and amounts of food you can sell from home.
