Interphase Audio are proud to announce the latest in our line of innovative and unique analogue products for the professional audio community - the EQ8.
Originally designed as middle section for the Ark console input channels, the EQ8 is the stand-alone / desktop version of this middle input section.
The EQ8 is a fully discrete, Class-A design, and features 8 dual-channel modules with inductive EQ, Hi-Cut filter, Lo-Cut filter and Swing EQ.
The EQ8 is fully modular. Each module has 2 in- and outputs, and 2 signal paths (for a total of 16 I/O)
Each of the four EQ sections can be individually used on either "A" or "B" signal path.
Hi-Cut filter (also called Low-Pass filter)
As its name implies, the Hi-Cut filter cuts off the high frequencies. It sweeps over 5 octaves from 16 KHz down to 500 Hz
The Hi-Cut filter can be used on the "A" or "B" signal path, and separate or in combination with the other EQ sections.
Lo-Cut filter (also called Hi-Pass filter)
As its name implies, the Lo-Cut filter cuts off the low frequencies. It sweeps over 5 octaves from 25 Hz up to 800 Hz
The Lo-Cut filter can be used on the "A" or "B" signal path, and separate or in combination with the other EQ sections.
4-band inductive EQ
Inductor based circuits are the “holy grail” of equaliser designs. These were used for example in the much favoured Pultec equaliser design, which dates back to the late 1950’s. Owing to their unique electro-mechanical properties, inductors impart a character all of their own, which is very distinctive. Our inductive EQ uses inductors in each of the four bands (unlike other so-called inductive EQ’s on the market), giving precise control and the distinctive inductor sound on each band. As a consequence of using inductors, this provides a “peaking” characteristic, giving much tighter control of the frequency selected. The inductor values and components have been carefully chosen and matched to provide an extremely musical sound.
Each band provides switch selection of any of six carefully selected frequencies chosen at musically pleasing intervals. Each band uses a fader - instead of a rotary potmeter - for cut and boost control, allowing a maximum of plus or minus 15dB.
Our 4-band inductive EQ can be used on the "A" or "B" signal path, and separate or in combination with the other EQ sections.
Four bands with switchable, overlapping frequencies
- Low : 50, 80, 100, 150, 300, 600 Hz
- Low Mid : 125, 250, 500, 1K, 2K, 4K Hz
- Hi Mid : 2.5, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8 KHz
- High : 8, 9, 10, 12, 14, 16 KHz
Why faders instead of rotary controls ?
Simply ... just because we like it.
But also, in our opinion, this gives much better visual control of the level of cut or boost, so you know what’s going on in a glance.
Our Swing EQ is a fast and easy way to make a track sound “warmer” or “cooler”. By turning the one-control-knob counterclockwise, you attenuate the highs and boost the lows, making the sound darker. By turning the one-control-knob clockwise, you attenuate the lows and boost the highs, making the sound brighter or cooler.
Our Swing EQ can be used on the "A" path or on the "B" path, separate or in combination with the other EQ sections.
All four EQ sections of each module of the EQ8 can be used independently from each other, on either of the signal paths, or can be combined for “extreme” EQ-ing.
What is the status of the project?
The Interphase Audio EQ8 is currently a functional prototype, based on the existing middle input section of the Ark console.
The EQ8 prototype works, has been tested the past months, but does not yet have the metal and wooden side panels, or the front, bottom and rear panels with connectors. Also new faceplates with correct printing need to be made ("SF" lettering needs to be "B")
The prototype consists of 8 of our IP211 modules which have been extensively used in the Ark console, and which customers love.
A new motherboard has been designed to hold all modules, and features all I/O connections, including power.

Taxes and Duties
Why different prices for different countries? Why are some pledges cheaper?
Interphase Audio is a European VAT registered company. Therefore, by law, we are required to sell and advertise our products including European VAT for those countries within the European Union.
There are however exceptions to this:
* If you run a VAT registered company in the EU (but outside Belgium), we are not required to charge VAT, if you let us know your valid VAT number.
* If you are not within the EU, we do not have to charge VAT, but please be aware that you may be charged taxes upon importation by your local / national authorities.
For this we have created separate pledge levels, some including VAT and others without VAT.
EQ8 - Downpayment
What is the EQ8 - Downpayment option?
The EQ8 is great value for money, but we understand that the amounts of the rewards may be too high to charge on some people's credit card (banks outside the US usually force a rather low credit card limit on their customers).
To allow every one interested to make use of our discounts, we now also offer a lower EQ8 - downpayment option. This pledge reserves one of the first EQ8 units for you.
The rest of the amount is due before we ship the product, and at that time different payment options are available (bank wire / PayPal / etc)
The final amount is depending on the version you prefer, and the country you are in (sorry, but we are required to charge VAT for all European countries, unless you are VAT registered)
EQ8 - STARTER
What is the EQ8 - Starter?
The EQ8 - Starter special is a limited version of the EQ8.
The EQ8 is fully modular, and can hold 8 modules. For the EQ8 - Starter special, we are making a unit available - exclusively for KickStarter - which only has 4 of the 8 modules installed. The remaining slots are covered with a blank panel.
This allows for all the goodies of the EQ8 for an entry level price.
The remaining 4 modules can be installed when budget allows, or when need arises.
Interphase Audio has over the past six years sold its products through a number of dealers around the world, and directly to professional customers.
However, Interphase Audio is always looking for new ways to help customers get access to our products and like many other established companies, Interphase Audio sees Kickstarter as a new, fresh and innovative way of reaching people the world over.
Kickstarter gives us the ability to know in advance exactly how many units need to be made and the ability to tailor our manufacturing precisely to meet this.
Risks and challenges
No one with experience of working in the electronics manufacturing industry would ever say there are "no risks and challenges" but Interphase Audio has invested thousands of man hours in designing, developing and testing the Ark console and the EQ8.
The EQ8 is actually the stand-alone version of the middle input section of the Ark console, which has proven quality and reliability, and which is much loved by users of the Ark console.
The two major risks we can think of are:
1) The component shortages effecting every manufacturer of electronics products in the world - however Interphase Audio has worked very carefully with its suppliers and cross checked availability of components and possible alternatives wherever possible and continues to monitor this on a daily basis.
2) Issues that might arise from manufacturing of the new metal and wooden profiles needed for the EQ8.
At Interphase Audio we have quite some experience with supplying woodworkers and metal workers with correct drawings and designs, so these risk are rather small.
But if corrections need to be made, delays in final production can occur.
