My niece once wished she could light up like a firefly and since she's passed away, I'm hoping we can light up the world with her book.
A WISH UPON A JAR
When my beautiful niece, Maria Schaffstein, was three years old, she wanted to be able to see in the dark and glow like a firefly. So I wrote a book filled with her images and the story of how a little girl wanted to be able to light up the night like lightning bugs could.
Along with the help of my friends, Eric Gothold (who did the illustrations) and Ismael Manny Carlo (who put all the images together for us), we created her story.
She also had a dream that one day A WISH UPON A JAR would be spread throughout the world in KINDERGARTENS, CHILDREN'S HOSPITALS AND LIBRARIES.
Here's a page from the book --
Each page has her face on it, from ages 1-3. Her image helps tell her story throughout.
However... Maria never got to see the book get published and shared with children everywhere... because she died in a car accident when she was 17.
But we can do it for her now.
With her images. Her dream. And YOU.
WHERE'S THE MONEY GOING?
With your generous pledges we will enhance the images, the artwork, and make the appropriate changes to make it look its best for publication.
Then we will find the right publishing house, get it exactly the way we want it, and print as many copies as we can to spread them around the world... in KINDERGARTENS, CHILDREN'S HOSPITALS AND LIBRARIES.
We also have a fun website - awishuponajar.com - and a Facebook page to touch as many readers as possible.
Maria was the type of girl who wanted to wrap her arms around the world. She loved to travel and if she had her way, would have met every person around the globe. Now she can.
So this is our chance to introduce her and A WISH UPON A JAR to everyone.
We would like to get it into as many children's hands as possible.
THIS IS ALL OR NOTHING.
If we don't raise the goal amount, it doesn't happen. If we raise the goal, everyone wins. If we go above and beyond the goal, children everywhere will be able to share Maria's story and celebrate her life!
So the possibilities are endless. With your pledges (OVER ON THE RIGHT-HAND SIDE OF THE PAGE), Maria will get to wrap her arms around the world, one reader at a time.
Thank you for helping us make her dream come true.

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
The only challenges we face could be delays in the actual printing to make sure we get everything exactly right. But we do not foresee any reason that we should be stalled in our process.
