BIG NEWS: It's now official -- George Salazar (Godspell) will be the guest performer at the October 1 performance of Missed Connections.
Why donate? We currently have funding for three performances at the Laurie Beechman Theatre, and are looking to extend our run. Your donation would help with marketing and promotion of the show, as well as venue guarantee. Every little bit helps, even buying tickets at SmartTix.
Admit it. You do it. Hell, we all do it. While our motivations for doing so may be varied, the allure of reading “Missed Connections” on Craigslist is undeniable. (Been living under a rock for awhile? Check it out: http://newyork.craigslist.org/mis/)
This guilty pleasure is what inspired Ricky Dunlop to create MISSED CONNECTIONS: AN EXPLORATION INTO THE ONLINE POSTINGS OF DESPERATE ROMANTICS. While perusing the sometimes touching, sometimes torrid (and almost always grammatically incorrect) postings on Craigslist’s most notorious section, he was struck with inspiration- get together a bunch of actor friends to read the posts out loud. Maybe even invite an audience. Definitely have alcohol involved. He enlisted the help of some fellow University of Florida alums (Jen, Jake, and Lauren) and the fearsome foursome plowed through posts and picked out the best and brightest (and by “brightest,” we mean...well, you can guess). Add a little organization and some funny accents and...voila, MISSED CONNECTIONS was born.
MISSED CONNECTIONS was presented for the first time on April 29th, 2011 at the Producers Club Theatre in Manhattan. As fate would have it, in attendance was Dean Roth of Royanth Productions. Interested in the show and its concept, he began working with Ricky and the crew to get MISSED CONNECTIONS produced and performed at other venues. And the rest is...well, the future!
