The Vision. Like Donald “Mac” MacMillan, one of the first Arctic explorers and an early environmental advocate, we are concerned about the state of our oceans and wilderness. In an effort to educate and motivate, Mac dedicated over 60 years of his life researching, writing and advocating for the Arctic. One of his books was a story about "Kahda," a North Greenland boy, who loves the ocean and his Arctic home.
We too love our outdoor home and outdoor sports, and we hope that the Kahda project, in a small but highly visible way, will help preserve both for future generations.
Our vision is to make Kahda a hub for recycling and repurposing gear from the active outdoor sports industry. We hope to see Kahda’s “Recycle Gear Here" signs in every outdoor sports retailer in the country (and then abroad). With your help, there is no end to the fun, innovative and functional products that we will make from the repurposed gear that Kahda collects.
The Rewards. Outdoor sports loving Kickstarters, if you like our vision and initial line of repurposed products, please help support our goal to raise $3800 to build the first product run for our pilot project. Thank you!
Risks and challenges
After 18 months of prototype development, our design and manufacturing partners are in place. Kahda's ME based partners are experienced, established and reliable.
Kahda's biggest fufillment risk is simply not having enough raw material to manufacture product. However, we are learning techniques to increase yield from each kite, and with existing inventory, we are comfortable that we can meet our stated fulfillment deadlines. Further, as we prepare the infrastructure to launch our Recycle Kites Here pilot program with our kite industry and retail partners, we are confident that we can generate the additional recycled kite volume necessary to meet greater than expected Kickstarter demand.
Our plan is to capitalize on lessons-learned from the pilot program and immediately roll-out to other carefully selected retailers. So, should demand from this Kickstarter campaign exceed projection, scaling the program to other locations will allow us to generate the recycled kite material for promised rewards. As we are already in discussions with other interested retailers, we anticipate fulfilling all Kickstarter orders - even if demand exceeds projection - within a reasonable amount of time.
Rewards which are not kite material dependent (stickers, tees, and the lobster dinners) will be fulfilled without delay.
