Ketofest 2019 is a festival promoting ketogenic food, cooking, social activities, and talks by low-carb thought leaders.
This project will only be funded if it reaches its goal by Wed, April 3 2019 3:54 PM UTC +00:00.
Imagine spending a weekend with hundreds of other low-carbers in a coastal New England town turned keto! Within four blocks, you will interact with world-class speakers, patronize local restaurants serving real keto dishes, enjoy grilled bacon cheeseburgers on low-carb buns, attend a pig roast where you don't have to worry about sugar in the sauce, learn how to cook your own keto dishes, attend talks on various keto-related topics, take fat-adapted fitness classes, and network with other ketogenic warriors.
This Kickstarter campaign is how we offer discounted tickets (and exclusive VIP tickets) to those who help us get it off the ground. So reserve your tickets here now by pledging.
Ketofest is not a conference - it's a festival! Conferences are for professionals; festivals are for people! Ketofest is for real people who want to learn the science behind and practical applications of the ketogenic lifestyle as a food-centric remedy for numerous diseases of civilization.
No company owns keto. There are no required products. There is just food and knowledge.
Ketofest is a celebration of life for those who value the continuous benefits of nutritional ketosis. Your hosts are Carl Franklin, Carrie Brown, and Richard Morris from the 2 Keto Dudes podcast. 9
Attend talks by world-class authors, journalists, and scientists! Last year's speakers were Nina Teicholz, Megan Ramos, Ivor Cummins, Dr. Jeffry Gerber, Dr. Eric Westman, Peter Ballerstedt, Dr. Nadir Ali, Amy Berger, Dr. Ken Berry, Prof. Richard Feinman, Jimmy Moore, Dave Feldman, Siobhan Huggins, Allan Misner, Nick Mailer, and Amber O'Hearn.
On Friday, Megan Ramos from IDM (Intensive Dietary Management) and the Obesity Code Podcast will host "Fasting Friday," a free event where she and her team share the latest clinical data from IDM patients and recent science on fasting. There will also be food-free activities for those who are fasting.
On Friday night, there will be a VIP dinner party at Carl Franklin's house where you'll get face time with our speakers. Enjoy some amazing appetizers, Carl's 48-hour sous-vide chuck steak, yummy sides, and fabulous desserts by Carrie Brown. This party requires a VIP ticket - space is limited.
On Social Saturday (July 20), we're having an outdoor party on the Parade Plaza in New London, which is downtown right across the street from the train station.
Not only will we have a pig roast (smoking overnight), we'll also be serving grilled sausages and other meats, Carl's keto clam "chowda," burgers on Fox Hill Kitchen's Bunz, and cole slaw! Of course, we'll have plenty of water and coffee available.
Pamela Zorn will be doing cheese-making demonstrations at Thames River Greenery all day Saturday.
Sign up for walking tours and Segway tours of historic New London (tickets will be available after the Kickstarter). Fitness coach Allan Misner will be offering free fitness lessons.
RD86 Space has a professional kitchen where you can watch instructional keto cooking demonstrations and sample the results.
We've teamed up with several restaurants within walking distance of the Parade to provide at least three ketogenic dishes on their menu. These dishes will be highlighted in the printed program along with a map of the restaurants, phone numbers, and whether they require reservations. Most do not.
Daddy Jack's is offering brick-oven Carl's Head Pizza!
Our fabulous sessions start at 8 AM and go until 5 PM. You'll learn the latest research, science and stories from the thought leaders in the low-carb space.
On Sunday, the all-day bacon bar starts at 10 AM! At 11 AM, Fox Hill Kitchens starts serving grilled cheese sandwiches on their amazing low-carb bread.
At noon, the main dish (to be determined) will be served. For drinks, we'll be serving coffee, tea, water, and the Ketofest Cocktail (seltzer, apple cider vinegar, citrus bitters, and a drop of stevia). At 5PM we do a closing session and give away the most unique swag you'll ever see. When was the last time you won a case of bacon?
The Red Army
Ketofest would not happen without our army of volunteers who do everything from food prep to setting up and breaking down tents, chairs, and tables, and registration. After the Kickstarter, we will send out a call for volunteers.
By train or car, new London is 2 hours from Boston, 1 hour from Providence (Intl airport there), 2.5 hours from NYC, 1.5 hours by Ferry from Montauk Long Island. 1 hour drive from Hartford or New Haven. The “Parade” - an outdoor area where the pig roast will be held, is right across the street from the train station. Everything else is a matter of 2 or 3 blocks away.
We simply don't want to take the financial risk when so much is at stake. Kickstarter is a great platform for making sure our event will happen. You won't be charged unless we meet our goal. Everybody wins.
Can I reserve more than one ticket?
Yes, but you can only purchase one ticket per Kickstarter account. So if you want to bring someone, they have to create their own Kickstarter account with their own email address.
Let's do this!!
Risks and challenges
We realize that bringing so many people into our little town increases the necessity for lodging and transportation. We need to be sure that everyone has accommodations.
There are risks that a speaker may have to cancel and be replaced. There's nothing we can do about that except to find the best speakers we can to fill their shoes. Fortunately, we are in good standing with the keto community, and we don't anticipate a problem filling the demand.
In short, we are confident that we can handle any contingency that comes up so long as we're funded!
