What is a prototype?

A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:

Proof of Concept

Explorations that test ideas and functionality.

Functional Prototype

Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.

Appearance Prototype

Looks like the final product, but is not functional.

Design Prototype

Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.

Production Prototype

Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.

About

Loosing something doesn't always have to be a big thing. It I loose my glove I can simply buy a new one, if I loose my library card it can with relative ease be replaced. In some cases we loose things we didn't even care about, maybe forgot where we put our already cold coffee. Sadly we sometimes loose things that are important to us. A necklace that we got from our grandmother, a really comfy jacket, or maybe we forgot to set our phones on GPS tracking and now we have no idea of where it is or how to find it.

We want to make it possible to find the things we lost. Our plan is simple. First you report what you've lost to our website, providing an approximate place, description and picture. If the thing is really important for you a finders reward might encourage people to search for it. When someone finds your item they can update the report and you can get back what you've lost.

Since not everything we loose is worth getting back we thought it would be a good idea to report things you are willing to part with. That way our site could provide pressure hunts to whom ever is interested. This of course would require people to report things they don't want back, and that are good enough to search for.

The website would mainly consist of three parts. A small part about why it exists, who we are and how it works. The second part a feed with recently reported items, of course we would implement a filter so you wouldn't have to see reports from across the world. Our dream would be that our third part would be a map showing approximate locations for the various lost items.

This kickstarter is for a pilot version of the website, for the costs of running a website. We want to see if there are people who would want to use our platform.

If there are any questions, go ahead and ask, either through the messages or through our email uflostandfound@gmail.com

Risks and challenges

Firstly we need people who are interested in using our platform, if no-one uses it it will be pointless.

Secondly we might not be able to create every part of our website as we have envisioned it. For convenience we have chosen to prioritize mobile compatibility, so you can look up possibly lost things on the go.

Thirdly there is safety. Both in potential frauds and people who try to lure others to remote places. We are still in the process of finding a good way to make our platform more secure for it's users. This far we advice against meeting anyone in your or their home, or in a remote area where you might not be able to get help. Don't meet them alone, have someone with you. Alway make sure the other part kan prove they have your thing before you agree to meet them.
In addition, do not enter areas or places you are not allowed to enter. We take no responsibility if you are charged for a crime or anything happens because you enter an area, always make sure you are allowed to go somewhere before you do.
