A funny throwing game for families and friends.

Throw your team’s discs closest to the Jack, but watch out for extra rules written on the disks!

A family themed update on boules/petanque/bocce that is more portable for travel, accommodates more players, and can be played inside or out, gardens, beaches, backyards, even pubs!

Why play Frisboules?

  • Frisboules is a party game, able to cope with over 10 players.
  • It’s intuitive and quick to learn (throw things to land as close to a target as possible).
  • It’s a fun family-friendly activity (standing, jumping, acting things out while throwing).
  • It’s replayable (in the way most throwing games are. And then, for the special disc rules, you only act out roughly one quarter of the discs in any game. So no-one is likely to have exactly the same actions to do more than once.)

Here is a video of how to play!

Whats in the box?

Frisboules comes in a tube 24cm high and 10cm across.

Inside the box are rules, and 32 wipe clean (water-resistant) throwing discs!

• 28 “Frisboule” discs (purple / yellow sides)

•3 “Jack” discs (one white, one red, one blue)

 • 1 "Swap Team Colors" disc (black)

Why buy now?

This Kickstarter is a limited edition release. All copies will have the rules insert signed and numbered in the order that they are bought.

How do I know I’m getting a good product?

Each Frisboule is a circular throwing disc 100mm diameter, 6.5mm thick and 40grams (1.4 ounces) in weight. Just the right size to fly straight and true when thrown! But still light enough that the game, at 1.3kg, is still more portable than other throwing games out there!

The discs are made of a wooden core surrounded by faux leather with gold foil inlay and wax rubber edging.

Who are you?

Hello! I’m Joost Dantuma, I used to play and make games as a kid, but left it behind when I “grew up”. Being a parent rescued me from the wilderness. Looking for a way to distract my kids from their touchscreens, I started buying boardgames again, and then later tweaking those and then designing games to cater to their attention deficits.

I have recently signed a cardgame with Buttonshy in the US, and have various other projects in the works.

Hi! I’m Paul Windward and have over 25 years experience working both in advertising and in a freelance capacity. I am primarily an illustrator with a quirky sense of humour, but my skills extend to logos, books, e-books and illustration for websites.

Where did this project come from?

This particular game started from my love of boules, and the frustration of not being able to play it indoors or on holiday.

It started with beermats, but those aren’t heavy enough to fly where you aim them. So, we looked at different options and settled on wood, and made the discs slightly larger to make them feel more natural in the hand. My kids also wanted a bit more brightness and silliness, so we came up with “party colours” yellow and purple, and also the extra rules to play while throwing. This has the extra effect of keeping other players involved, it’s not just the winning, but definitely the taking part. Finally we moved to faux leather coatings – this helped with water resistance, but also saved money. Laser etching wood was unfortunately just too expensive to keep the game price reasonable.

What’s your plan, and what’s your schedule?

The discs are ready to go! We are printing a limited run for this first edition, so there won’t be holdups caused by unexpected demand. We need a minimum of 100 copies sold (that is 3200 discs!) and can cope with up to 10,000 discs –so just under 300 copies. Therefore we should have them with you within a few weeks of the end of the campaign – well in time for Christmas.

I am selling this run of games at cost. If I sell all 275 copies, then I should just about break even. This is why I can’t really do special deals.

 Why no Stretch Goals!

This is a limited first edition print run, so we’re not going for stretch goals. There are other disc designs we have planned, allowing for pub based gaming, and some other unconfirmed themes. Depending on how we do here, we may do some extra campaigns for those “expansion set” discs!

Reward Levels

  • T-shirts! play in team colours with your favourite “Ryans” (as we call the cartoon characters) £15
  • Early Bird Discount! First 50 10% off! £30 instead of £33
  • A copy of the game! £33 (RRP would be £40+)
  • I've had to split these up in the rewards area on the right. Hopefully the balance is about right.

Shipping

I am shipping from the United Kingdom. The game package weighs 1.3kg, which means that sending more than one will unfortunately not save on postage (“small package” limits are at 2kg and large package postage costs are just crazy!).

Postage

  • to the UK is £6.50*
  • to the EU is £13.50*
  • to the USA/Canada is £18.50*
  • to Australia is £19.50*

*These costs are estimates based on current rates, but as we’ll be sending out within a few weeks, they should still be valid!

If you think you might be meeting up with me in person at some point, then please indicate this! I can bring copies with me to save these costs! I live in London, and would love to meet you!

Risks and challenges

So we're a new publisher, why should you trust us?

Risk 1: Can We Do It?
I am an inventory manager as my day-job. In regards to this I have managed multi-million pound work related projects. I have deliberately limited the print-run for this first edition to a manageable level, many discs are already manufactured and ready to go.

Risk 2: Manufacture - Quality
We have a single supplier for all the components. They usually supply corporate leather-craft goods, so are used to the quantities we are requesting. We are already manufacturing the games, and all samples sent so far have been immaculate. The pieces are as described above, and the feel is good, as testers report.

Risk 3: Manufacture - On Time Delivery
The delivery date of this project is 6 weeks after the end of the Kickstarter. This sounds tight I know, but we are already producing! As the campaign progresses we will be able to estimate final demand up to the 275 copies we’re limiting this to. Manufacture will be complete before the end of October, with some games shipped even before this! All games will be winging their way to you before the end of November. Thanks for giving us this opportunity!
