A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:

We are makers who have spent the last 10 years working with breadboards for our projects. Current breadboards lack features that make the prototyping process faster, easier and more convenient. We decided to tackle this problem and change breadboards for the better. Our long term vision is to bring quality prototyping experience to makers across the world.

PlusBoard has been designed from the ground up. By asking makers what they felt were problems that they encountered during prototyping, we were able to get a clear idea of the flaws of common breadboards. We took their feedback and created PlusBoard.

Risks and challenges
As with any hardware project, a major hurdle is mass manufacturing and shipping. To gain insight with regards to the costs and difficulty of manufacturing the product, we 3D printed our prototypes. Those prototypes helped us to visualize the potential complexities of our product and how that could complicate injection moulding. Moving forward, we are currently in talks with experts who have done injection moulding before and improving our design so that it is designed for manufacturing(DFM).
Furthermore, to ensure PlusBoard is cost effective, we spent hours scouring sites such as Alibaba and Taobao to collect quotations on all the different components required for the project. We also spent a week in Shenzhen talking to manufacturers and evaluating the quality of their products.
Finally, we have identified a manufacturer in Shenzhen who is ready to implement our design and has a track record of manufacturing other Kickstarter projects.
Although this is our first Kickstarter project together, our combined experience of successful projects will help see us through potential difficulties!
No matter what, we promise to put in the utmost effort to meet the expectations of our backers!
