About

Help bring this "Savage Piece for Savage Times" to NYTW this March!

This spring, Little Lord storms Next Door at New York Theatre Workshop with our most ferocious show yet. And we need your help to get us there!

Part recess, part ritual, part recruitment, SKINNAMARINK is our absurd and vicious take on social conditioning, group think, and elementary school education in America.

THE WHAT

SKINNAMARINK is based on “McGuffey's Eclectic Readers,” a series of American schoolbooks used to teach children how to read from the 1830s to today (yes, to today). Pre-dating the pastel-colored/everybody-happy world of "Dick and Jane," these brutal little books helped shaped the minds and behaviors of Americans for generations.

The simple, rich language of these primers and their blatantly moralistic underpinnings launched us to question our current mess of American belief systems.

How were you taught to read? To think? To behave? How were you punished? What is your relationship to authority? To discipline? To shame?

Transforming New York Theatre Workshop’s 4th Street Theatre into our own little one-room schoolhouse of horrors, SKINNAMARINK questions what kind of people are the most useful in society...and how we handle the rest.

THE WHO

Little Lord is an ensemble of experimental performance makers led by Michael Levinton. We aggressively reinterpret found and neglected shared cultural memories, and use them to create new works of theater.

Our work is like a funhouse mirror: we uproot the familiar, subvert it, and put it through a playback loop so you can’t help but question your assumptions. The work has been called “scrappy creative brilliance” and “fearless in its weirdness.”  We’ve been doing this for 12 years and The New York Times has even said we're "hard to dislike." Does that count anymore? Maybe you know us from NOW IS THE TIME? or BAMBIF*CKER/KAFFEEHAUS? or Pocahontas and/or AMERICA?

Our amazing team for SKINNAMARINK includes: Kaaron Briscoe, Joshua William Gelb, Fernando Gonzalez, Michael Levinton, Meg MacCary, Morgan Lindsey Tachco, Laura von Holt, Kate Weber, Marika Kent, Karen Boyer, Cha See, Joseph Wolfslau, Whitney G-Bowley, Polly Lee, Daniel Allen Nelson, Kaitlin Nemeth, James Wyrwicz, Crystal Kovacs, Val Insardi, Brittany Coyne, and John Wyszniewksi/Everyman Agency.

THE WHEN & WHERE

SKINNAMARINK will premiere March 8 - 23 in the second season of Next Door at NYTW, a curated series that provides subsidized space and resources for self-producing artists. Tickets are available here

Little Lord has been developing SKINNAMARINK for the last two years with unprecedented institutional support through residencies with Target Margin Theater (TMT), A.R.T./New York, and Drop, Forge & Tool; and as part of the 2018 Impact Residency Program of the Drama League and LaGuardia Performing Arts Center (LPAC).

During that time, showings were presented at TMT’s Grand Festive Opening, at LPAC’s Rough Draft Festival, and at WNYC’s Greene Space Variety Show "44 Charlton."

In fall 2018, The Peanut Butter Show, a companion piece to SKINNAMARINK, had a short run as the inaugural offering of TMT’s new presenting series at their Brooklyn home the DOXSEE, where audiences called it “beautiful yet terrifying,” “weirdly wonderful,” and “a savage piece for savage times.”

And now it’s YOUR TURN to help: BACK US TODAY!

Individual donations are the lifeblood of a company our size — without you, there’s no Little Lord. Seriously. That’s not just a pitch, that’s our reality.

Our budget for this show our biggest to date: THIRTY-FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS. We haven’t crowdfunded in almost 3 years, and everything is more expensive this time around —> our artist fees are higher, the rent is costlier, and good lord when did insurance rates jump so high?!

We have $20k projected from other sources including ticket sales and institutional funders (some confirmed, some pending, fingers crossed). That means we still have FIFTEEN THOUSAND DOLLARS left to raise from people like you. So...

SHOW YOUR SUPPORT TODAY!

And get this: thanks to our fiscal sponsor New Georges, your donation is TAX-DEDUCTIBLE
