About Spring Fling & Taster Exhibitions
Spring Fling is regarded as the most successful event of its kind in Scotland. For the past 11 years, every year during Spring bank holiday, our artists and makers throw open their studio doors and welcome visitors from all over the world.
Spring Fling 2013 was our biggest event yet with 93 artists and makers spread across the region creating a special buzz around the event. Each year we open taster exhibitions in partnership with Dumfries & Galloway Council within the region prior to the main event. The exhibitions provide previews of the work of each year's participants and help visitors to see the artists' work before travelling to the main event.
For Spring Fling 2014, we hope to bring our amazingly talented artists and makers to major cities outside of the region including London, Newcastle & Glasgow!
Why Go National?
Our remit has always been promoting our artists and providing support and opportunities for them to further develop their work and other skills. We have achieved great success in the past 11 years by attracting on average 10,000 visitors to the artist studios each year.
It has always been our dream to bring our artists to venues and galleries outside of the region which would give them even more opportunities as well as attracting a new visitors to the event and the artists' studios.
The biggest commercial gallery in the UK, the Biscuit Factory in Newcastle has agreed to host an exhibition of around 20 - 30 selected Spring Fling artists in March/April 2014.
A selection of work by Spring Fling makers and designers will be shown at the Lighthouse in Glasgow in Jan/February 2014.
We are speaking to a commercial gallery in central London, within which was plan to exhibit a selection of work from our artists in April 2014.
Invitation to the Exhibition Openings
All backers will be invited to all exhibitions openings including the ones within Dumfries & Galloway.

Advert in Spring Fling Brochure (for Businesses)
One of the highlights of our marketing in the run up to Spring Fling has always been our high-quality collectable brochure. The full-colour brochure is something we are very proud of and has been used in many occasions as a good example of brochure / catelogue for open studios.
Each year the 15,000 - 20,000 brochures are printed in February and distributed widely to local businesses and arts venues across the country, it is available for FREE. The brochure is also made available to view and order online. 95% of our artists use the brochure to promote themselves throughout the year.
Advertising with Spring Fling has always been very popular and each year we sold out our advert spaces in early December of the year before.

Risks and challenges
There are a few risks to consider for this project.
1. We have never done Spring Fling showcases outside of the region before, and may come across situations that we are not expecting, however, we believe our partners will be able to advise and help us.
2. We are a very small team, so this project might be stretching our capacity, however, we have a very helpful committee of artists to help us, and if this campaign is to be successful, we will be able to take on some temporary help and recruit volunteers.
