UPDATE! Kickstarter Exclusive Content!
I'm pleased to announce that there will be a Kickstarter exclusive area in the game where all backers can unlock in game rewards with their unique code. I'll post all the rewards in updates as the campaign progresses!
Hello all, thanks so much for looking at Brass Town Wrestling. The RPG for wrestling geeks like us!
Version 1 of the game should be out on Steam by August.
Take the small open world life sim approach of Harvest Moon, mix it with the skill building system of Princess Maker 2, and build it around the core theme of professional wrestling!
The outcome? A life simulator based in a small town, filled with a mixture of obscure and casual wrestling references.
In the game you can work your way up the ranks of the Brass Town Wrestling to get to your very own Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony!
The project began when I bought RPG Maker VX Ace in a Steam sale. What started out as a little experiment seems to have continued to take up my holidays and weekends for the next 5 years.
It started as a standard linear RPG with a wrestling theme, but it's continued to evolve over time into a much more open experience. With every feature, I've made sure to make it relevant to wrestling. Want a part time job in Brass Town? Cool, catch some chickens and improve your grappling skills! Want to farm, fish and cook? That's great, it'll impact on your health, weight and stamina! I'm sure you get the idea :)
As you can see below, the game is packed full of features. You get to make your own story and be the type of wrestler that you want to be.
This Kickstarter is to raise the funds to release the game on Steam and to fund a small focused marketing campaign for fellow wrestling fans.
I tried a much more ambitious Kickstarter 18 months ago to fund graphics. Anyone who followed that will be happy to hear that I've managed to source an artist named Bimbella to help me out. They're helping out for free, and I'm hugely grateful as the new battlers are looking awesome.
Here's a short video of me trying to explain the game and trying to play it while styling through the fact that the character's gender changed unexpectedly for a few seconds! I'll never be a YouTube star!
Below is a video from me playing the tutorial from the game as it was last year. The intro is about 30-60 minutes depending on how quickly you play. With the game having so many features I thought it important to introduce them gradually as well as setting up one of the possible storylines you can explore. (Apologies for my awful narration!)
Below are a list of features already built into the game;
*Fight in wrestling matches to gain popularity.
*Develop a move set based on how often you use certain attacks.
*Work your way up the rankings to take on stronger opponents.
*Make some extra cash and improve skills by doing jobs for the people of Brass Town.
*Train at the gym & eat healthy to improve your physical stats.
*Research Gimmicks, buy Ring Attire, hire a Manager and acquire Accessories.
*Build relationships with the other residents of Brass Town to unlock rewards and backstories.
*Become a face (good person) or a heel (bad person) depending on the decisions you make.
*Take bribes to lose matches, or have a never give up attitude.
*Engage in illegal backyard wresting if you’re a heel, or fight to save the church as a face.
*Save your money to buy a house, or blow it all on drinks and sleep on the streets.
*Watch Brass Town change depending on your actions.
*Day, Dusk and Night time system means you’ll have to plan your days.
*Go fishing and farm your own food for cooking if you want to save money.
*Pick up injuries during matches that may require a simple tablet, or full on surgery.
Risks and challenges
Regarding risks and challenges, the main risk is that it's only me making the game and I'm relying on a friend to do the graphics. We're both doing this on our free evenings and weekends, so if work or life gets hectic it'll delay the release. A slightly less serious risk, is that I sometimes spend more time playing the game than I do programming! On the plus side, my slight addiction has helped to find and fix a lot of minor issues! :)
I've plugged away at the game for over 5 years now, so it will come out in a complete form even if there is a delay. I really hope that the game will continue beyond release, as I can't imagine not working on it.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
