We are The Seattle Transmedia & Independent Film Festival
Trans-me-di-a: noun: a convergence of multiple forms of media to tell a story, either simultaneously or asynchronously.
Eleven Years ago we were founded as the Seattle True Independent Film Festival. During our first 10 years we showed over 1000 films created in the pioneering spirit of true independence. This year we are expanding our reach to include Transmedia storytellers. For STIFF’s 11th Year we plan to create a Gallery Space in the University District to feature Transmedia Projects from around the world.
Not every story is meant to be presented in a theater in front of a crowd. Many Transmedia projects work best in a gallery setting where the individual viewer can take their time to interact and explore the complex world created by the artist.
We envision a gallery space that will be Free and Open to the Public during the festival from May 2nd – 10th. Our mission is to introduce Seattle and the World to the burgeoning possibilities that Transmedia has to offer. We need your support to make this happen!
Press from the last 10 years-
Rather than pluck along as second fiddle for another 10 years, STIFF has done what I wish more regional festivals would do: rebrand for the future. As of this year STIFF now stands for the Seattle Transmedia Independent Film Festival, putting the focus squarely on “web series, video game concepts, storytelling apps for mobile phone and tablet, and social media narratives.” - Filmmaker Magazine 2014
As STIFF nears the end of its first decade, the festival continues to go strongly into the future. While many more people will attend SIFF or at least say they did, the local color of STIFF is important for Seattle, its local filmmakers and its community of supporters. - Seattle Star 2013
STIFF is more than a simple affront to the establishment and proves it has solidified a more complicated identity. - Indiewire 2011

Risks and challenges
We have traveled to several other festivals that present work in a gallery environment. We plan to borrow/rent quite a bit of technology that even after this Kickstarter is funded we still will not be able to purchase. A risk is that we will not be able to locate these items that are available for loan or rent and will be forced to scale back on the number of artists we plan to present.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
