In May 2005, my life forever changed down a path I could have never imagined, when a serial killer invaded my home and murdered my mother, step-father, and brother Slade. He only spared my brother Dylan and I to abduct and flee with us into the woods for a seven week living nightmare, culminating in the murder of my brother and my return from his captivity. Return from physical captivity to a life I no longer recognized. My mother was gone, murdered by a pedophile in our home. Her final moments ring in my head daily. The memories from that night and the weeks in the woods have held me mentally captive for what feels like an eternity. Now I would like to share my real story with you. The full story I have never shared with another living soul. This must be released from me, one way or another.
In my book I will not only tell the story of what happened the night Joseph Duncan entered my life, but the in-depth stories of time we spent with him during our abduction. I will also explore our life as a family before Duncan ripped us apart, and what family was after.
If you've ever wonder what the real picture of the life of a survivor of abduction by a pedophile killer looks like, I will be giving it in detail. Beyond the "feel good" news stories of those rescued from captivity. The tales of the wonderful beautiful life we live now, free of the monster. We learn to smile for the cameras. For me, the smiles just wont mask it anymore.
Life has been quite a struggle for me over the years. Most of the scars on my body have appeared to heal, the damage done to my mind and soul is a work in progress. My hope is to help myself heal through writing this book, and maybe encourage readers to hug their loved ones a little tighter a little longer.
With the help of a writer I am completing the book now, and want to run a first print by the end of October 2018.
If this Kickstarter is successful and people show an interest in the book, we will then plan to film a documentary later this year. The goal of the film would be to travel from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho to Indiana to visit Joseph Duncan on death row. Stopping along the way at locations relevant to my story, and Duncan's story too.
Risks and challenges
This book is currently the only project on my my table. I am devoting all efforts to completing the work with the writer. This story is what I lived, I have essentially been writing it my entire life. I've been building up to this point for 13 years and feel that now is the time. I am ready. I must leave a legacy for my family. We deserve a win.
Logistically for printing and distribution we are ready, we just need my finished draft and some people willing to financially back the book through Kickstarter,(or as I call it) my public therapy.
The initial amount we are seeking will get the first batch of printing. Ideally our goal is much higher for a further printing and distribution.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
