Who am I, anyway?
For the past 5 years, I've been doing spray paint art professionally for a living under the name, Wicked Graffixx, doing work for people like actor Philip Anthony-Rodriguez from his work with Star Wars, as well as others around the globe, and becoming a featured artist at many Comic Cons around the United States. Having worked with other comic creators in other forms of art, I decided it was time for me to hone in on my talent and release the world's very first and only spray painted comic, and I needed a strong message, one very close to me, a graffiti artist/skater with a rebellious spirit, so then the idea dawned on me... THE FACELESS.
What is "THE FACELESS"?
THE FACELESS is, as specified above, the world's first and only spray painted comic that follows Victor, a nobody from the streets of D.C., whose mother was recently diagnosed with cancer. Lacking the income, Victor's drug-dealing brother, Joe, pays for what he can of their mother's treatment. Months into her treatment, a law is passed abolishing the idea of minimum wage, free healthcare, and everything Victor and his family needed to survive, causing the world to go into complete chaos. Tired of getting stepped on, Victor decides to rise to his feet, find a group of like-minded outcasts, and create a rebellion that the tyrannical government would come to fear.
The reason behind The Faceless is to let those rejected by society finally be heard. To give a voice to the voiceless, a face to the faceless, and above all to give those who don't fit in with the masses something to connect with. You are not alone and this comic is inspired by people like you.
What will the future of "THE FACELESS" deal with?
Other than the abolishing of minimum wage and free healthcare, "THE FACELESS" will touch on LGBTQ pride, equal rights, immigration, mental health, domestic assault, disabled people, suicide, and as Professor X would say... "gifted" people. After this campaign is finished, a percentage of the profit of every sale will be given to the corresponding charity of every future issue, so if one issue deals with racism, a portion of the profits will go to a civil rights group (NAACP, BLM, etc.), if one deals with suicide, then it'll go to groups like AFSP, etc.
What does the comic look like?
The comic book is very strongly associated with street art and anti-propaganda graffiti, making the visuals match the dialog perfectly. Below are teaser posters used on "The Faceless" using the exact style as seen on the interior pages and cover.
Where is my money going?
Every dime of this campaign is going right back into the comic to make it a reality. Being a professional artist, my shop is already currently stockpiled in posterboard, canvas, paper, and spray paint on the regular, so no funds will go toward that.
- 70% will go to printing the comics
- 10% will go to Kickstarter fees
- 20% will go to Comic Con fees
Goal #1: The first goal is set at $300 because while the mission is a bit higher, at $300 we can get a decent amount of comics made, as well as attend a smaller Comic Con to sell the comics and keep rising from there.
Stretch Goal: The real goal that I wish to reach is $2,000 so that I can make at least 1,000 copies of the comic to bring to all of the future Comic Cons I'll be attending in 2019.
If you already have or are considering supporting this one-of-a-kind campaign, thank you so much! The vision for this comic is to actually help the world and you've helped it do that. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to ask and I will do the best I can to answer them. Have a charity or a message that you want to send out? Just give me all the details and I'll do what I can for you.
Risks and challenges
The biggest risk for this campaign and the comic in general is honestly, I believe, the backlash it may receive from those who aren't as open-minded, which also makes the biggest challenge getting in front of the right people. I understand that people may not believe in what I have to say, but this comic is for the people that do. I've already received plenty of backlash for my image of the main protagonist punching a Nazi, and I don't expect comments like this to stop anytime soon. I just want to put out the message to push for whatever it is you believe, even if the whole world is pushing back against you.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
