Some thoughts from Brian Rademaekers of the Philadelphia Inquirer on a few of the songs featured on the upcoming album: "On a rough cut from the forthcoming Yellow Humphrey album, Featherweights, due out this winter, she becomes downright soulful on "Cherry Tree," as an organ, guitar and banjo accent her clear-as-bell vocals, rolling and throaty in all the right places but smooth and warm when it suits.
"Low Roses" is a faster-paced song with more direct vocals that convey a deep sense of pining, all of it supported by a foundation of wavering organ, clean brass and a tempo that moves the song along nicely.
The lush "Featherweights" can be downright psychedelic at times, though Lohse's clear-minded vocals counter that haze while bringing in a 1970s British folk vibe helped along by classical string work.
But she really shines in the slower moments, when you can soak in all the delicate and nuanced turns that her voice is capable of. This is especially evident in "Axes and Arrows," a gentle gem that oozes with warm, silky textures as Lohse croons serenely through the lyrics."
